We had the good fortune of connecting with Athea Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Athea, how does your business help the community or world?
I help youth, parents, educators, and leaders do hard things and discover or re-discover their inner spark. It’s an inside out job. Checklists don’t solve the world’s problems. Transformed people do. I educate and coach others to make small, dedicated internal shifts through the practices of mindfulness and yoga. This kind of internal work makes some of the greatest, most positive impact in the world, including equity in education. Making an authentic and sustainable difference in the world starts there. My business, Sol Sense Yoga, offers live trainings, digital programs, and products to help youth, parents, educators, and leaders begin this inward journey by developing focused attention, authentic purpose aligned to value-driven principles, and cultivating joy – every single day. The programs I offer are not only knowledge-rich steeped in a diversified mindfully-centered social and emotional learning curriculum, but they also offer my students an unforgettable, identity-affirming experience that guides them to carry their unique spark into the world.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a mindfulness educator. I help people de-stress for success. But, it also goes much deeper than that. What I really do is help people do hard things and discover their inner spark. It seems strange to say, but I am where I am today in my business, career, and journey because I have persevered through struggle many times. Struggle has been an asset. It’s fueled my entire journey. I’ve learned so much through very challenging moments, and those moments in my life have pushed me to my edge. They have pushed me to go deeper into myself, and to come out shining brighter on the other side. I’m a better human because it. My personal brand, my business brand, and my story have 2 things in common: through our struggles we find the greatest light. We find our purpose. Our calling. Our essence. That is the stuff that really impacts the world.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would pick up some coffee at Cavo, then go for morning walks around Rice University, Memorial Park trails and Buffalo Bayou. At lunch we would hop on over to Pondicheri to grab some amazing Indian lunch with a chai tea on the side (and one of their delicious GF cookies!). I would then drive down to Galveston to play frisbee and watch the sunset. We would top the night off at Mosquito Cafe enjoying some local menu favs.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shakita Perryman of Best Start Learning has been an amazing support in my journey of taking mindfulness and yoga practices into schools. I am so grateful to have her in my life. She believed in me and my work from the first day I met her and our friendship is a great joy in my life.
