We had the good fortune of connecting with Cullen Cauble and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cullen, why did you pursue a creative career?
I think I (Cullen Cauble) speak for the band when I say as cliche as it sounds we didn’t pick music it picked us. I started playing guitar out of a love for music at a time when I was lost and felt passionless about my future. Logan Allison our drummer was born in to a music family his father a session drummer and his mother an avid member of the early Houston music scene. I don’t know how Josue came to become a musician to be honest but I know he is just as passionate as we are. For me through music I found my passion and purpose it was a challenge to not only grow the band but ourselves as people. It forces us to dig deep down to understand ourselves at our cores and learn to express those feelings.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Bipolar Joyride is an alternative indie rock band coined as “indie with a bite”. We have a variety or interesting yet cohesive sounds you’d be able to hear live. The band has been giging for over 3 yrs starting September 3rd with founding members Logan Allison and Cullen Cauble. Over the years we’ve had many highs and lows the life of a band is not easy and we have so seen many talented groups fall and rise in that time. Personally for us the first 1.5-2 yrs were by far the hardest. We spent so much time writing and developing a sound or feeling that we felt defined us at the time and released our debut ep. Once we finally put music out in the world everything kinda started slowly falling in to place. We became far more respected in the scene and finally got a full time bassist which we hadn’t had for the first 2yrs of the band in Isaac Burch. Isaac ended up leaving the band but is still a close friend of the group Josue Flores would go on to replace him. In this last year with Josue we have accomplished more than we ever thought possible. Opening up for more than 7 established touring act like Quarters Of Change and The Hails was absolutely unbelievable, and we even played our first locals fests. The biggest lesson though these last almost 3.5 years has taught us is just keep moving keep going and going if you are making something you’re proud of eventually things will start falling in to place. We still have an infinitely long road ahead of us but we have no plans of slowing down.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The Houston music scene isn’t what it used to be as far as music venues but there’s some great venues we’ve been lucky enough to play. I think our two all time favorites are Last Concert and White Oak Music Hall we’ve been fortunate enough to have actually played our debut show at White Oak. As far as our smaller local favorites it’s easily The End, 1810 Ojeman, and a newer venue as far as local music is concerned Axle Rad we haven’t played there yet but we will be very soon.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many acts far more talented then we could ever hope to be that don’t get half as much attention as they deserve. Some of our absolute favorites and closest friends include Elevatordays, Junkyardcat, The omies, Backroomrumors, and Sad Allen just to name a few.
