We had the good fortune of connecting with Julian Spence and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Julian, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The Suspenceful Design is more than a business—it’s a living expression of my creative philosophy, a reflection of how I see and interact with the world. Design isn’t something I turn on and off; it’s woven into every part of my life. Whether I’m working as a graphic and web designer or analyzing the lines of a sneaker, the layout of a billboard, or the flow of a website, I see everything through a lens of possibility. Suspenceful Design is the embodiment of that perspective.

The name itself is a play on my last name, Spence, and the word suspenseful—because creativity, at its core, is about anticipation, storytelling, and the unknown. I didn’t want to box myself into a single product or medium. If inspiration strikes, I want the freedom to bring it to life—whether that’s a T-shirt, a rug, a poster, or even a pool stick. Suspenceful Design is about embracing that creative spark without restriction, allowing pure passion to lead the way.

At its heart, my brand is a reflection of my faith, my experiences, and the visions I’ve been given. It’s a creative outlet, but also a way to connect, to inspire, and to give people something that resonates with them. If people support it, that’s a blessing. If not, the art still exists, and that’s enough—because I create not just to sell, but to express, to push boundaries, and to leave something meaningful behind.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What excites me most isn’t just what I’ve accomplished—it’s the unknown, the possibility of what could be. Everyone has dreams, but few take the leap, and even fewer keep going when that first step doesn’t go as planned. For me, it’s never been about overnight success; it’s about the pursuit, the process, and the relentless belief that what I create can mean something to someone.

There’s no feeling like seeing my sons recognize my work—when they point out a hat I designed and say, “Daddy, that’s your hat!” In those moments, even the smallest wins feel like Olympic gold. But getting here wasn’t easy. I built my skills in the margins of my life—working multiple jobs, pushing myself past exhaustion, creating when I had no time, and proving to myself over and over again that limits are just a mindset.

The hardest lesson? Ideas are easy. Execution is where the real challenges begin. You can have the best concept in the world, but what happens when nobody notices? When a launch flops? When your post gets two likes? Do you stop, or do you keep going? Success isn’t measured by numbers; it’s measured by resilience.

This journey has taught me that as long as I have faith, fortitude, and a vision, I will never stop. Suspenceful Design isn’t just about creating a brand—it’s about proving that greatness is already inside you, even if no one else sees it yet. My designs speak for my faith, my grind, and my style. These aren’t just products. This is purpose.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a shoutout to the forgotten wisdom—the scriptures, ancient texts, vintage design magazines and philosophies that have stood the test of time yet often go overlooked in a world obsessed with the next new thing.

Lately, my inspiration has come from digging deep, researching, and uncovering truths that have been buried or dismissed in the digital age. There’s something powerful about reconnecting with knowledge that has guided generations before us—timeless principles of discipline, creativity, and purpose. These old ways aren’t just relics; they’re blueprints for innovation, reminding me that true creativity isn’t always about reinventing—it’s about rediscovering.
