We had the good fortune of connecting with Trin Chelle and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Trin, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
The key habit that contributed to my success was staying true to myself, no matter who I was around. I started my hair business, Slay Fanatic, at 15, and balancing it with high school and college meant making significant sacrifices. I had to miss out on a lot, but I was determined to keep everything running smoothly. By cutting out distractions and focusing on the bigger picture, I was able to stay on course and grow my business.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started Slay Fanatic at 15, driven by a passion to provide high-quality hair extensions and help people feel confident. What sets me apart is my commitment to creating a product that not only looks great but lasts, all while staying true to who I am and what my brand stands for. Above all, my faith in God has been my guiding force throughout this journey.

Getting here wasn’t easy. Balancing school and growing a business meant a lot of sacrifices, but I was determined to make it work. The challenges were tough, but staying focused on my goals, trusting in God’s plan, and keeping my eyes on the bigger picture kept me going. I learned that consistency, patience, and staying true to your values are key to overcoming obstacles.

What I want people to know is that Slay Fanatic isn’t just about hair—it’s about empowerment, hard work, and building something meaningful. My journey is about showing others, especially young women of color, that with faith, dedication, and belief in yourself, you can achieve your dreams.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We’d start with a relaxing massage at 7 Spa, then grab some fresh seafood at Loutis Seafood. For brunch, Grooves Houston is a must, followed by exploring Black-owned spots like The Breakfast Klub and The Grown Folks Shop. We’d check out the Museum of African American Culture and the Third Ward, then catch live music at The Juke Joint.

Next, we’d enjoy some outdoor time at Buffalo Bayou Park, have lunch at Bar-B-Q & More, and visit the Houston Museum of Natural Science. A night out at House of Blues for live music and cocktails at The Vault would follow. For shopping, we’d hit up Houston Premium Outlets, then enjoy dinner at Creole Culinary Academy. Finally, we’d wrap it up with brunch at The Yard House and relax at Discovery Green.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a huge shoutout to my mom. Watching her raise me and my siblings while always putting us first and herself last has been a major driving force in my life. Her sacrifices inspired me to work hard so that I could give her a life where she doesn’t have to struggle anymore. Knowing that I can help my family build a generation of wealth pushes me to go even harder every day. I also want to shoutout Memphis—my hometown. The city’s hustle, strength, and resilience have shaped who I am and continue to inspire me to reach new heights.
