We had the good fortune of connecting with Alberto Medellin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alberto, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Starting my own business was about taking ownership of my future. I realized early on that working a traditional job would only take me so far — it would pay the bills, but it wouldn’t give me true freedom or allow me to build anything lasting for my family.
My thought process was both emotional and strategic. On the emotional side, I wanted to create a legacy — something bigger than just a paycheck. I wanted my time, my efforts, and my risks to benefit my family directly, not just a company.
On the tactical side, I knew I needed a vehicle that could generate both active and passive income, and real estate stood out. I focused on building the skills (through mentorship/coaching), surrounding myself with the right people, and staying consistent — even when it got hard. I looked for ways to leverage creative strategies like subject-to financing and short-term rentals to accelerate growth without overextending myself.
At the end of the day, starting my business was about betting on myself — and being willing to outwork, outlearn, and outlast until I built the life I envisioned.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is centered around real estate investing and education. I buy and renovate homes, both for short-term and long-term rentals, and I mentor others who want to build wealth through real estate.
What sets me apart is the personal approach I bring to everything I do. I’m not just chasing transactions — I’m building relationships, solving real problems for sellers, creating quality housing for tenants, and helping new investors build something they can be proud of.
I’m most proud of the lives I’ve been able to impact — whether it’s giving a family a safe, updated place to live, helping a homeowner get out of a tough situation, or seeing one of my mentorship students close their first deal. That ripple effect is what keeps me passionate about this work.
Getting here wasn’t easy. I had to leave the security of a stable career, face uncertainty, and push through the fear of the unknown. I overcame those challenges by staying committed, surrounding myself with the right mentors like Ehab Shoukry, and constantly being willing to learn and adapt.
One major lesson I’ve learned is that success is built in the small, consistent actions — not the big, flashy moments. It’s about doing the hard, sometimes boring work, day after day, even when the results aren’t immediate.
If there’s one thing I want the world to know about me and my brand, it’s that I’m here for the long haul. I’m building a legacy through hard work, integrity, and service to others — and my story is proof that ordinary people can create extraordinary outcomes when they stay committed to the bigger picture.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend came to visit, I’d want to show them a mix of everything that makes this area special — great food, culture, outdoor experiences, and a little bit of real estate inspiration too.
We’d probably start in Houston with a good breakfast at Common Bond or Blacksmith Coffee, then spend some time checking out cool neighborhoods like the Heights, Montrose, and the Museum District. I’d definitely take them to the Houston Museum of Natural Science or the Menil Collection — two of my favorite spots.
Lunch might be at a classic place like The Pit Room for some legit Texas BBQ. At night, we’d hit up places like McIntyre’s or Heights Bier Garten for a relaxed drink and outdoor vibe. Maybe even catch a rooftop view downtown at Z on 23.
Midweek, I’d take them down to Galveston for a beach day — hit the Seawall, check out the Historic Strand District, maybe even rent bikes and cruise around. Dinner would have to be seafood at Willie G’s or a low-key spot like Shrimp N’ Stuff.
We’d spend one day doing something outdoors like kayaking at Buffalo Bayou or hiking around Armand Bayou Nature Center. And of course, I’d sneak in a quick tour of some of the real estate projects I’m working on — show them how we’re transforming properties and neighborhoods.
If they’re runners like me, we’d hit Memorial Park for a long run or Hermann Park for a more scenic jog.
By the end of the week, I’d want them to leave with a real sense of how much culture, opportunity, and community there is here — and how Houston and Galveston both have their own unique energy you just can’t find anywhere else.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Absolutely — there’s no way I could take full credit for where I am today. First and foremost, my wife has been my biggest supporter. She believed in the vision even when it was just an idea, and she’s been by my side through the risks, the long nights, and the wins.
I also have to give a huge shoutout to my mentor and coach, Ehab Shoukry. His guidance through the Rehab With Ehab Academy not only gave me the blueprint to succeed in real estate, but also connected me with a powerful community of investors who constantly encourage and challenge each other to grow.
Books like ‘Rich Dad Poor Dad’ planted the seed early on, but it was real mentors like Ehab and the supportive network at the Academy that showed me how to turn ideas into real, tangible results.
I truly believe success is a team effort. Even if you’re the one putting in the work, having the right people, mentorship, and community around you can change everything.
