Meet Felicia Cooper | Entrepreneur: Wedding Officiant and Alopecia Warrior

We had the good fortune of connecting with Felicia Cooper and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Felicia, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
“Let’s be honest, we’ve all been there, right?” That moment when you’re pouring your heart and soul into something, whether it’s a business you’re trying to get off the ground or a personal goal that feels incredibly important, and you hit a wall. Doubt creeps in. You start to wonder if all the effort is worth it, if you’re just banging your head against something that’s never going to work. For me, the struggle is real. I’m someone who doesn’t give up easily – maybe to a fault sometimes! But I’ve learned that figuring out when to keep pushing and when to step back and reassess isn’t about being a quitter. It’s about being honest with yourself. Are the challenges you’re facing just tough hurdles that you can overcome with more grit? Or are they signs that maybe, just maybe, it’s time to rethink your approach or even consider a different path? It’s a tough call, and I think we all wrestle with that inner voice telling us to keep going versus the one whispering that it might be time for a change.”

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My professional life has been a compelling story of dedication and evolution. For over 23 years, I was deeply committed to the field of orthodontics, where I gained extensive experience and honed my skills. I developed a strong foundation in managing clinical operations, training staff, and ensuring regulatory compliance. I became highly skilled in assisting with various orthodontic procedures and utilizing relevant software. I took great pride in my ability to contribute to exceptional patient care.
However, my journey took an unexpected turn when I needed to prioritize family and transitioned into a caregiving role. This significant life change, while demanding, prompted a period of self-discovery and the pursuit of new passions. During this time, I also faced the personal challenge of being diagnosed with two forms of Alopecia.
This personal experience has profoundly shaped my desire to support other women facing similar challenges. I’ve created a YouTube channel, ‘Felicia The B*A*L*D CHICK,’ as a platform to share stories, provide information, and foster a supportive community. On this channel, I conduct interviews with women with Alopecia, business professionals, and experts in related fields such as dermatology and trichology. Additionally, I am working on creating my own body & scalp moisturizer that anyone can use but centered around woman with alopecia.
Beyond this, I’ve embraced opportunities to connect with people in different ways. Becoming a Registered Wedding Officiant allows me to play a meaningful role in celebrating important life events.
My path hasn’t been without its challenges. Balancing a long-term career with personal responsibilities, navigating a health condition, and making significant career transitions has required adaptability, resilience, and a strong sense of purpose. I’ve learned the importance of effective communication, problem-solving, and the courage to redefine myself.
Ultimately, I want my story to resonate as one of growth, strength, and the power of finding fulfillment in diverse ways. It’s about embracing change, creating community, and using my experiences to make a positive impact on the lives of others.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If My Best Friend Visited: A Week of Houston Fun!
Okay, so if my best friend came to visit for a week, I’d want to give them a real taste of what I love! It would be a mix of relaxation, culture, and city vibes.
* Day 1: Welcome and Coffee Culture
* We’d start with a relaxed morning at one of my favorite coffee shops. There’s this great little place with amazing lattes and pastries – perfect for catching up after they arrive. I love the atmosphere of coffee shops; it’s so chill and a great way to ease into the trip.
* Day 2: Museum Day
* A visit to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston is a must! I could spend hours wandering through the exhibits, and it’s always fun to share that experience with someone. We’d take our time, soak in the art, and maybe grab a light lunch at the museum cafe.
* Day 3: Beach Vibes
* A day trip to the beach is essential for some sun and relaxation. We’d pack a picnic, enjoy the waves, and just unwind. It’s a nice change of pace from the city, and who doesn’t love a good beach day?
* Day 4: City Exploration
* This would be our “urban adventure” day. We’d rent scooters and zip around downtown Houston at night. The city lights are so pretty, and it’s a fun way to see the sights. We’d find a cool spot for dinner – maybe a trendy restaurant with outdoor seating.
* Day 5: Spa Day
* Mid-week, a spa day is in order! We’d treat ourselves to massages, facials, and just pure pampering. It’s the perfect way to recharge and get ready for the rest of the week.
* Day 6: Music and Parks
* If there’s a concert in the park happening, we’re there! I love live music, and outdoor venues are always a blast. We’d bring a blanket, enjoy the music, and soak up the atmosphere. If not, we’d explore a few different parks, maybe have a picnic, and just enjoy the outdoors.
* Day 7: Relax and Recharge
* Our last day would be a bit more low-key, revisiting a favorite coffee shop for brunch or doing some leisurely shopping before they head home.
In terms of fun and interesting things about me – I think my friends would find my career journey pretty unique, going from orthodontics to caregiving and then becoming a wedding officiant. And of course, my YouTube channel and advocacy for women with Alopecia is a big part of my life now.
