We had the good fortune of connecting with Annette Le Pavec and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Annette, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
I prefer to think about work/life harmony rather than work/life balance. There is more ease and fluidity. In the work/life balance there is always a bit of struggle. Finding harmony between work and life requires questioning and reassessing yourself continuously. Changes are scary for many. We are very attached to the old, including our” old good pain”. The fear of disappointing others is very strong. And pretending takes lots of energy. Who are you trying to impress? This is a question I ask myself often. It’s a good start toward more harmony , truthfulness, and less struggle. Mahatma Grandi once said: “Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.” I like that. This the path.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Since the pandemia I have been forced to close my brick and mortar location in Katy. But we are not a wall. are we? in all crisis there is also opportunity . I have been creating an online library , yoga video tutorials and creative movements that are not only for the fit and flexible. I am in my late 50’s and a firm believer that you can increase your energy and build strength and flexibility at any age. You just need to have the right mindset and the right exercice. Fighting against aging and pushing too hard makes things worse. You can get hurt or discouraged and then you give up. It doesn’t mean that because you are older you need to practice only gentle or restorative, not at all. To build strength you need to perform strong movements and because practical flexibility comes from strength, that’s the way you can safely increase your range of motion and therefore the quality of your life. My classes are for all levels of students. Not because of the modifications to make things “easier” on beginners , but because of the choice and specificity of the movements . You can be an advanced practitioner , you will be challenged. If you are recovering from and injury and/or a brand new beginner, you too will work.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am from Brittany in France so I love crepes. I like to take my friends to Coco, crepes , waffles & Coffee midtown. Then go visit the Museum of natural science and the Museum of Fine Arts . Museums in Houston are amazing . A walk in the Buffalo Bayou Park to breathe and take some fresh air. I love to hang out in the ” old katy” and grab lunch with friends when they come to visit. Then take them to the MKT Depot and caboose, the railroad museum. Go shopping to the Centerra at cinco Ranch and sip a fresh juice at Jamba juice.. Take them to my favourite Restaurant in katy, Kura revolving Sushi Bar.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mom and dad passed away last year. My mom was strong and fearless ,and I owe them both a taste for adventure and the importance of using critical thinking and cultivating discernment. Understanding that doubts and ambiguity are part of the process and identifying assumptions. Stimulating useful discussion in the room with the trainees and encouraging them to stay open -minded and argue both side of an issue is a very important part of my Teacher Training.
