Meet Kensey Cleveland | Freshie maker & Small Business Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kensey Cleveland and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kensey, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
After having my daughter and staying home with her I wanted to do something that kept be busy but was still manageable with having a little one learning to crawl and get into everything!

I’ve always loved buying car freshies when I saw them in stores & gas stations so I decided to get on YouTube and see how they were made and I was HOOKED. I immediately ordered a starter kit on Amazon and got to work. I started small then found so many amazing businesses of mold makers and scented beads and began ordering through them to widen my selection on designs I offered.

Now almost 3 years in and I don’t plan to quit any time soon!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My goal was to be able to show anyone my freshies and they could find something themselves or maybe a family member or friend would love. I currently have about 100 designs on my website and offer about 15 scents to be able to customize the freshie for whoever it’s for.

Seeing how excited someone is when they see the final product and telling me how great they look at some of my vendor events is truly what keeps me pushing myself to never stop creating and trying new things.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would definitely go and have brunch at Bakkhus Taverna in Kemah, they have some of the best Greek food I’ve ever had.

Then maybe see some live music at one of the local bars in Kemah as well.

One of my favorite places to walk around is the Strand in Galveston and look around and shop at the boutiques on the weekend so we’d could do that Saturday evening!

And in September you can’t forget about the Pasadena Livestock Show & Rodeo, I’m super excited to be back there this year with the amazing vendors and committee that always puts on a great event!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to thank my husband & parents for supporting me from the beginning. They started telling their friends and co workers about my freshies and the orders started pouring in!

I also have the best girl group who help me run the Facebook side of my business and I’m so lucky to have them!

The freshie community also has pushed me to keep creating and sharing my work. I’ve met so many amazing women through my business and other small businesses in the community that I am forever grateful for.
