Meet Ashli Henderson | Comedian

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashli Henderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ashli, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I’m from Minneapolis, Minnesota. North Minneapolis, to be exact. I feel my upbringing completely molded me into the person I am today. Good and bad. The tough times helped to build character and resilience. The good times gave me an understanding of what enjoying life, peace and family truly feels like. I had to learn to laugh at the things that hurt. It gave me stories and teaching that I not only live by and learn from, but I also share through my comedy. I also learned how to be okay with what I have. Coming from humble beginnings taught me gratitude. Especially for the little things.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a Stand-up comedian, actor, writer, social media influencer, and more. I started entertainment at an early age but I found my passion, which is Stand-up comedy in 2016. I was encouraged by friends and family to try it and after doing so, I was hooked. The only thing that has come easy in this journey is my talent itself. I’m naturally gifted in what I do but that’s also what makes it hard. I’ve learned that being naturally gifted can cause you to get in your own way. Which is something I’ve had to and still am fighting through. The only thing I’d want the world to learn from me is, stay the course. Put your God, your goals and your dreams first.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my friend was visiting me in Houston, I’d start the day with a bike ride and breakfast at the Breakfast Klub, then after we’d go shopping at the Galleria, following after that maybe go to a day party and vibe out to some music, drinks and more good food, and later in the night go to a comedy show at MoCity Grill, Swaggers, Secret Group, The Riot, Punchline or Houston Improv. After the comedy show we’ll end the night by getting tacos from the taco truck at tiger market.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate my shoutout to my daughter, Mykel “Tuke” Henderson! Her patience, acceptance, understanding and forgiveness has helped me to chase my dreams and also grow as her mother and as a woman. Not only is she my “why” but she’s also my hero!
