Meet Rubina Ali and Neelam Damani | Sister-Owner Business | Tea Enthusiasts

We had the good fortune of connecting with Rubina Ali and Neelam Damani we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rubina and Neelam, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Our hope has always been to create something that nourishes more than just the individual. Through Roots in Harmony, we’re building a bridge between ancient healing traditions and modern-day needs—helping people reconnect with nature, with themselves, and with each other. By supporting organic agriculture, partnering with small growers, and promoting wellness rooted in simplicity and integrity, we’re contributing to a more sustainable and equitable food culture. Every blend we share is a small act of care—for the earth, for our community and for ourselves.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Everyone wants to feel better and live healthier, but finding nourishing options isn’t always easy. At Roots in Harmony, our mission is to make wellness more accessible through drinks that nourish both body and spirit. By choosing sustainably sourced, organic ingredients, we support long-term health—for people and the planet. Each purchase helps expand food access and empowers people to live more consciously, with joy and intention.
We’re two sisters, Rubina and Neelam, creating organic Ayurvedic superfood blends like Golden Milk Turmeric Latte, Beetroot Cacao Latte, and Mushroom Marvel. Each mix is designed to support immunity, digestion, and mind-body balance. We use only certified organic herbs and spices—no sweeteners, flavors, or anything artificial—and craft our blends in small batches, partnering with Houston-area farmers whenever possible.
Roots in Harmony began as a personal search for healing. Years ago, Rubina was dealing with ongoing stomach pain and turned to our mom for a natural remedy. Together, they started experimenting with Ayurvedic herbs, and the results were transformative—not just for her digestion, but for overall well-being.
For those new to it, Ayurveda is the 5,000-year-old sister science of Yoga, focused on creating balance in all aspects of life. While we grew up with this ancient wisdom, we now feel a deep sense of gratitude to share its benefits. Ayurveda emphasizes food as medicine, and herbs and spices as powerful tools for healing.
We’re honored each time we hear that our blends are bringing comfort, balance, and joy into someone’s life. One customer said of our Golden Milk: “I have psoriatic arthritis, and I’ve noticed a big difference in the achiness and swelling of my joints.” Another shared that it eased inflammation in his knee, while someone else described it as “a soothing, delicious nightly treat.” One of our customers takes Feminine Bliss Tea on nature walks, and many have replaced caffeine with the energizing effects of Beetroot Cacao Latte and Mushroom Marvel.
At Roots in Harmony, everything we do comes from a place of love and a real passion for wellness. Starting and growing this business hasn’t always been easy, but every obstacle has helped us grow. More than anything, we want people to know that taking care of yourself can feel good, fit into daily life, and be inspired by the wisdom that came before us.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would urge our friend to visit every farmers market possible! Not only will they support small businesses like ours, but also learn the local culture and vibe of the city. We highly recommend local museums that are free, such as Menil Museum and The Jung Center. A meditation at Houston Zen Center would be a treat and so would a yoga class at YogaSix in the Heights. Exploring the trails (and saying hello to a few alligators) at Brazos Bend would be highly recommended, followed by a delicious take-out dinner at Shiv Sagar in South Houston.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Our family, friends and customers! Our journey has been possible only through their love and support.
