Meet Silvina

We had the good fortune of connecting with Silvina and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Silvina, why did you pursue a creative career?
Working with my hands is such a pleasant experience, touching clay, give it form. I enjoy the creative process of thinking what form will I create? What color? What style? Infinite possibilities to choose from. As soon as I finish one project I am eager to start a new one.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been developing my Calla Lily flowers in sculptural forms for 20 years, I am just now somehow satisfied with it and I can present it. Trial and error, is what it takes to accomplish something. There are no shortcuts, just work. When you love something so much you do whatever it takes and in the process you become determined, resourceful, a problem solver, self confident, patient, disciplined, humble, trust yourself…

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The Houston Symphony
The Wortham Theater
The Menil Collection
The Hill Country
House of blues
Brenner’s on the Bayou

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Certainly I have so many people to thank for their support and encouragement! From teachers and the staff at the Houston Community College in Stafford campus in Missouri City where I started, I took ceramic classes there for many years. I couldn’t wait to get there after work. That was my Heaven!
Whenever I felt frustrated and dissatisfied with my work friends and family were there to tell me not to quit, they saw the worth in my work when I did not.
