We had the good fortune of connecting with Georgina Antimo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Georgina, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have been catering for 15 years, and my business eventually grew to the point where I could no longer work out of a small kitchen. During the pandemic, I created a weekly menu and prepared family-style dishes that I personally delivered to my customers’ doors. That experience inspired me to look for an industrial kitchen.

I truly believe I received signs from my dad, who passed away six months before I opened the restaurant. He was my biggest supporter. One day, I came across this little spot in a beautiful neighborhood—and I knew it was meant to be!

I decorated the place to feel like home and equipped it with a brand-new kitchen. I created a fixed menu featuring empanadas, enchiladas, chilaquiles, and a few other dishes you can find in Mexico any time of the day, along with a rotating weekly menu that we serve Monday through Saturday. Through it, I celebrate Mexican cuisine from all over the country. I draw inspiration from everywhere—from very traditional recipes to dishes with an interesting personal story, to well-known street food, and of course, cherished family recipes full of good memories.

At first, my plan was to offer only takeout and use the dining room for private events. But when we opened, people wanted to stay, relax, and enjoy freshly homemade food—and they kept coming back, eager to try something new every day. That’s how it became a full-time restaurant!

My husband, Jaime Reverte, and I had always dreamed of opening a little cozy restaurant—and that dream came true! I still cater events outside the restaurant, and on Sundays, we host special events here at Mexican Mom, where we help guests create new memories with their family, friends, and coworkers.

This beautiful place has given me the opportunity to meet incredible people, support nonprofit organizations, and share my passion for authentic Mexican cuisine so everyone can experience something truly special every day.

What should our readers know about your business?
My family and friends are my top priority in life, and cooking is my passion. I’ve been entertaining and catering for more than 20 years, and I truly enjoy making others feel happy and cared for through my food. That’s the reason I created Mexican Mom Traditional Kitchen—a place where every dish is made with love and intention.

Our menu features freshly prepared dishes made daily with the finest ingredients sourced from local farmers, traditional Mexican flavors, and even a few joyful inspirations from around the world—always with a special touch of Mexican Mom!

This is the place where you and your loved ones can enjoy a new culinary experience every day.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I studied Fashion Design in Florence, Italy, which is why I love the Montrose area and enjoy visiting its charming vintage shops and unique boutiques. I also studied art here in Houston at the Glassell School of Art, and I love spending time in the Museum District and at The Silos at Sawyer Yards, where you can meet artists, interact with them, and learn more about their work.

For me, cooking is another way to express my art!

That’s why our tour would end with a wonderful dinner at Mexican Mom, where I can connect with guests and delight them with dishes full of flavor, tradition, and lots of love.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my Shoutout to my father and mother for their unconditional love and support.
Also, to my husband and my children, Jaime, Isabel and Alexa for being my inspiration and always encouraging me to fulfill my dream!
