Meet LaShonda Roberts Roberts | Entreprenuer, Author, Education Specialist

We had the good fortune of connecting with LaShonda Roberts Roberts and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi LaShonda Roberts, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
This is actually my second business. Fit and Fine Apparel was my first born, and honestly, it taught me a lot. I made mistakes, mostly from not knowing what I didn’t know and not taking enough time to really research and prepare. Now, I approach business with more balance. Yes, research is important, but so is progress. I’ve learned from friends who are thriving entrepreneurs that success often comes down to networking, avoiding perfectionist procrastination, and moving with strategy and intention. I believe in building a real foundation. Don’t skip those steps. Create your plan, use your resources, lean into your connections, and stay intentional about your growth.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My book is not a traditional read that you simply pick up and finish cover to cover. It is an intentional experience designed to guide readers through real-life topics we all encounter. Each section is carefully organized to help readers reflect on specific areas of their lives. It begins with defining the focus area, includes reflective questions for personal internalization, offers Scripture for encouragement and alignment, provides space for prayer development, and includes my personal testimony on how that topic impacted, challenged, and refined me through God’s help.
What sets my work apart is its transparency and depth. I am not afraid to address the difficult realities people face emotionally, mentally, spiritually, and physically. This book and journal were created to remind people they are not walking through their struggles alone. There are resources and communities of people who understand what it feels like to navigate both mountain-top moments and valley lows.
My professional journey has been far from easy. I have had to overcome perfectionism, imposter syndrome, and the temptation to overthink every step. I learned to trust the process, embrace discomfort, and recognize that progress is more important than perfection. One of the greatest lessons I have gained is that success often requires showing up consistently, even when you do not have all the answers.
What I want people to know about me and my brand is that everything I create is purpose driven. My goal is to help people heal, grow, and feel supported. Whether someone is thriving or struggling, my hope is that my work serves as a reminder that they are not alone and that there is always space for grace and growth.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend came to visit for a week, I would definitely plan a mix of good food, relaxation, and experiences that pour into both the soul and the spirit. I believe in creating moments that leave people feeling refreshed and inspired.
We would start with brunch at some of my favorites—Grace’s on Upper Kirby, Dove’s in Midtown, or Urban Smoke always set the tone for a good day. From there, we would spend time exploring local Black-owned businesses and boutiques, supporting entrepreneurs and creatives in the city.
For a dose of culture and movement, since she and I love to work out, we’d probably drop in for a session at Feast with the Beast or catch a Bands with Can class for a fun, upbeat, and less strenuous workout. We’d also get in some outdoor time with a walk around Memorial Park.
Evenings would be for good food and good energy. Dinner at Mastro’s or Steak 48 would definitely make the list for an upscale experience. We’d plan a rooftop lounge night at Z on 23 or Five Central to enjoy the city views and unwind.
Throughout the week, I would also schedule a spa day at either Trellis Spa or Hotel Zaza. Since we love a good pool day, relaxation around the pool would absolutely be part of the plan. I’d also make sure we attend First Fridays for networking and live music. And because we both love a good R\&B sing-along, I can always count on checking Prozealous LLC’s Instagram page for the latest in live music entertainment.
What makes Houston special to me is not just the places, but the people. The city has an energy fueled by creatives, entrepreneurs, and dreamers. My goal would be for my best friend to leave feeling both connected and inspired.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to first dedicate my shoutout to God, my Lord and Savior. Without Him, none of this would be possible. I also want to recognize my Dillard University teammates and family, who have been my witnesses and support system throughout the years. A special shoutout to Mrs. Morrisha Alexander, who has been a shoulder to lean on and a patient listening ear. My best friend, Tanya Jones, deserves credit too. She is the definition of unwavering support. To my Wheeler Family, who is always super supportive of my endeavors and truly a light on my path, I appreciate you more than words can say. And lastly, my family and siblings. I am so grateful for the way they allow me to show up as my full, authentic self.
