Meet Viridiana De La Garza | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Viridiana De La Garza and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Viridiana, what is the most important factor behind your success?
My Family, they have always been my inspiration to do what I didn’t know I was able to do.
A mix of passion, discipline, and constantly challenging myself to grow. I’m always learning, always evolving — and that’s what keeps me inspired.”

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What started as a simple way to help pay the bills quickly turned into something much deeper—I fell in love with capturing moments. Photography became more than just a job; it became a passion that didn’t feel like work. Each session gave me the opportunity to tell stories through my lens, and that brought me true joy.
But the journey hasn’t been easy. At the time, I was caring for two young children and a newborn. My two-year-old needed me constantly, and balancing motherhood with the desire to grow as a photographer was one of the hardest parts of the process. While I was investing so much time into learning and improving my craft, I often felt like I was missing out on being fully present as a mom.
Eventually, my husband was able to return to work, but by then, I faced a new challenge—bookings were coming in, but I had no one to help with childcare during photo sessions. It was frustrating to see momentum building, yet feel held back by circumstances beyond my control.
Still, every challenge made me stronger. This journey has been a mix of sacrifice, growth, and passion—and I wouldn’t change a thing.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of the first things I’d share with my best friend is Houston’s incredible cultural diversity—especially through its food. The city is a melting pot of global flavors, and I’d love for her to experience the variety of cuisines we’re lucky to have here.
For a relaxing and scenic day, I’d take her on a walk through Buffalo Bayou Park. It’s one of my favorite spots in the city, with beautiful trails and stunning views of the downtown skyline.
Since I love music—especially tropical and reggaetón—for a fun night out, I’d take her dancing at Fabian’s Latin Flavors in downtown. I’ve also been wanting to try Casa Verde, which looks like the perfect spot for a girls’ night out.
Houston has so much to offer, and I’d make sure she got a true taste of the culture, the energy, and the rhythm of the city I call home.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
What started as a way to support my husband during a difficult time has now grown into something I truly love. When he lost his job due to the Covid-19 pandemic, I wanted to help in any way I could. I remembered the camera he had gifted me in December 2019 and thought maybe I could take a few family and kids’ portraits to bring in some income.
At first, I had no real training—just a vision and a lot of heart. I charged $40 for family sessions, thinking photography was simply about pointing and clicking. But the moment I started taking photos, I felt a rush—a mix of nerves and excitement. I knew I could do better, and I wanted to learn everything I could.
With a background in using computers and a growing curiosity, I threw myself into learning the craft. I spent hours watching YouTube tutorials, practicing, experimenting, and growing. Slowly, people started to notice my work, and word of mouth began to spread.
What began as a way to help pay bills became a passion. I started with families, and each session brought me a sense of purpose and fulfillment. Today, I’m proud of how far I’ve come—and even more excited for where this journey will take me.
