Thinking through the whether to start something new

Starting a business can be terrifying. Weighing the pros and cons, the risks, and other considerations can be so overwhelming that often promising entrepreneurs stop before they even start. We asked some phenomenal entrepreneurs about their thought process behind starting their own businesses. Our hope is that by making the thought-process less intimidating we can help more folks think through whether they should take an entrepreneurial leap.

I was motivated to help people, especially young women. The name Walk on Water Yoga came from a personal place. I grew up surfing and paddleboarding and was inspired by the story of Jesus walking on water. Like Peter, I stepped out with little faith, unsure of what direction this business would go. All I really knew was that I was called to create an environment where people could experience the physical and mental benefits of paddleboard yoga while connecting with something deeper. My thought process was a long process. When you think of business, you think of tall buildings , millionaires, and financial freedom. No one prepares you for the preparation , the 24/7 hard work, the research , and the process to becoming your own business entity. It’s hard and exhausting , but the progress is a never ending motivation to going harder . Read More>>

Back in 2014, I felt a strong passion to create something that reflected both my love for makeup and my desire to help others feel confident and beautiful. That’s what inspired me to launch Arte Cosmetics. I started with the essentials—foundation, powder, and blush—because I believed in building a strong base that enhanced natural beauty. Honestly, I’ve been ambitious from a very young age. It started with this fire inside that I just couldn’t ignore. I’ve always believed that if the space you want doesn’t exist, you create it! I have always been passionate about beauty, skin care, and inspiring others. As someone who has struggled with extremely stubborn acne, creating products that are naturally derived and actually work was like a calling for me. I am also a consultant, who helps others structure their business, increase their revenue, and receive funding. I’ve always been a solution oriented person. Read More>>

The thought process of starting my own business was scary but this is what I have a passion for. A lot of thoughts on if I can do this, will I be successful, how can I continue to be successful, how do I overcome the difficult stages in running a business, how can my “mistakes” become lessons. Overcoming the “what ifs” was the hardest part but I managed to get the bad thoughts that came up out of my head and went for it. Only lessons and room for growth not failures! Read More>>

I wanted to do something I enjoyed, have a career and do something for myself. Do something I’d always wanted to do and it serve in a capacity of serenity and enjoyment. I wanted to escape the depleted cycle of demands, non rewarding and antiquated jobs and mindsets I’d been doing for so long. I was tired of helping others grow, while I was struggling with non fulfillment and lack of creativity and respect. Read More>>

I was at a turning point in my life. My third daughter had just been born! I had given up my job at a fabulous furniture retailer, I was too needed at home. My other girls were growing up, & my husband was off shore (he works on shifts, one month on, one month off). I didnt want to walk away from doing what I loved, so I thought, “if not now, when?”, and my husband pushed me to get things in order to start my own company. We did the steps and it all started flowing into place. Read More>>
