Meet Tyler Mai | Technology Business Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tyler Mai and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tyler, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I wanted to put my future in my own hands, having the business meant that every decision I made would affect my own livelihood. I was also very interested in working with technology in general, so I was happy and naturally founded a business that worked out for me.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I worked at a job dealing with computers during my college years then I realized that I could do more running my own business. I started working on computer/laptop repairs, PC builds, and IT work, then built an online store out of it. Working with computers and laptops, I realized that a lot of the margins were very slim and unpredictable. I would need better sources of material to continue supporting that branch of my company. For now, we transitioned more to Cameras, Lenses, and general photography equipment. The work we do now has supported us to provide 15+ jobs and still growing. The computer industry may not have worked out for us for the time being, but we will go back into it eventually, as my experience can lead the team to be successful in that industry as well. The biggest lesson for me is going after what works and just keep pushing forward. At the end of the day, the brand name, customer service, and employee livelihoods are the most important things to care for.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to Post HTX, they have a lot of local restaurants native to Houston that are amazing. It is also a great spot to hang out with friends or family, they will also have events there from time to time. Chinatown Bellaire is also an amazing spot I would recommend, karaoke, boba, and outstanding food, whether you want Ramen or Hotpot. Down the street is Little Saigon, where you can get your daily dose of Vietnamese Coffee or Banh Mi.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank the various businesses that exist currently, that promote great business practices, innovation, and constant growth for their respective industries. NVIDIA, Costco, Amazon, are businesses that come to mind. A local business that I know, Total Nutrition, provides top notch customer service and have perfect customer reviews. I like to take that inspiration and do our best to make sure our customers are always satisfied!
