We had the good fortune of connecting with Cathalin Leija and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cathalin, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Giving back is a core value for us. With our business less than a year old, we’ve made it a priority to support our community. We’ve donated to organizations that fight human trafficking, contributed to flood relief efforts in Kerr County, and launched the 1st Annual 2025 Backpack Giveaway for families in need; and doesn’t stop there — we’re actively planning new community initiatives this fall.

For me, it’s personal. I’ve experienced the challenges of living in a low-income household as a child, been through natural disasters and, during those times, my family and I needed help. The community showed up for us — and that left a lasting impression. It’s only right to give back to the community. We have a servants-heart approach to this core value.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We are Sisters Kitchen Food Co., we offer Authentic Mexican Salsas, handmade tortillas and house fried chips in a variety of flavors! Our commitment is to our tradition and community. Being a 1st generation Mexican and Salvadorian American, it is important to stay true to my roots. I grew up with watching my Mother and her sisters (mis Tias) in the kitchen making wonderful meals, sharing life stories and passing on the tradition of great Mexican food to the next generation.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First, I give credit to God- only way I could understand the next phase of my journey. Second, my husband-I left a solid career to take time off. I needed to regroup and uncover my next mission. He afforded that opportunity for me. My kids, my original taste testers and my cheerleaders! They immediately became subject matter experts in food tasting, labeling and assistants in this process. The business name is inspired by my Mother. Hands down, the most efficient and best cook I know. She can expeditiously make great meals in 30 min! Sisters Kitchen Food Co is also inspired by the women in my family (my beautiful sisters, aunts, cousins) to prep/cook together, share stories in the kitchen and make all feel welcome. I continue to stay a student of my craft and business model as so many have shared their wisdom. To the event coordinators who said “YES” you can join our market! I appreciate them for allowing our business to be reached by the masses. Shoutout always to our customers! They are what keeps us going. I’m old school; I believe the organic way to grow is by “word of mouth” and they have been holding it down!
