Meet Tay | Wardrobe Stylist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tay and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tay, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Growing up, I was always drawn to fashion. Thanks to my parents, I was surrounded by pop culture and spent a lot of time watching shows like Keeping Up With the Kardashians and 106 & Park.
As I got older, my interest deepened, and I began exploring runway shows to expand my knowledge of fashion. The very first show I watched was Chanel’s Fall 2014 collection, Karl Lagerfeld’s iconic supermarket runway.
On Twitter (now X), I became known for instantly recognizing pieces celebrities wore, which often went viral. After friends and mutuals suggested I pursue styling, I launched my Instagram page, @dressmetaay, the very next day (February 2021)

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a wardrobe stylist who goes beyond the surface. I dive into archives and research daily to bring depth and originality to my work.
My styling has a distinct signature, where people can instantly recognize my touch on a project. Styling isn’t always easy, because not everyone can immediately see your vision, and part of the job is guiding clients to embrace and trust the look.
What I’ve learned is that clothing, though seemingly small, holds incredible power. My goal is to help people feel confident, own every room they walk into, and truly see themselves in the best light.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In Austin, I would take them to lounges here. Cajjun Eats, Azure & D2.0, because I love a good hookah. Then, we would go to South Congress and go to all the cute and bougie restaurants. There’s alot of new things in Austin that I still don’t know about so Tiktok would be my bestfriend.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to thank social media and everyone I met on there that has supported my styling journey! People on social media will support you before your actual friends in real life would.
