Meet Ian Ferguson | CEO

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ian Ferguson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ian, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
As a green waste recycling facility, we are generating so much life out of something that would have normally gone into a landfill. I think what we do really comes down to helping people take care of their own little piece of the world. We provide natural and sustainable soils, composts, and mulches, so when someone plants a tree or starts a garden, they know they’re building on something healthy. That doesn’t just make their yard look better, it saves water, supports pollinators, and keeps chemicals out of the environment.
And on the community side, we love being a resource for people. Whether it’s at the nursery, at an event, or even just answering questions, it feels good to give people the knowledge and tools to grow something they’re proud of. At the end of the day, if folks are enjoying their gardens and feeling connected to nature, then we’ve done our job.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My career really started with my dad, John Ferguson. He founded the company and was one of the first to really dig into soil microbiology, showing how healthy soil can completely transform a garden, or even a whole landscape. Growing up around that, I learned early on that this work is about more than just products; it’s about helping people care for the land and giving back in a lasting way.
It hasn’t always been easy. Working with living soils takes patience, experimentation, and sometimes going against what’s considered normal. But that’s also what makes it rewarding. I’m proud to carry on my dad’s legacy while finding new ways to help communities, gardeners, and landscapers grow healthier soils and better gardens.
What I want people to know about our brand is that it’s rooted in stewardship and science, but also in people. We’re here to help folks connect with their gardens, support the land, and create something that lasts, just like my dad taught me.
