Meet Andrea Pascual Unanue | Professional Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrea Pascual Unanue and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Andrea, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my business came from a deep desire to express myself through images rather than words. I graduated as a journalist in Venezuela, but after immigrating and starting over in a new language, photography became my voice. My love for it began in college with an elective class — and honestly, even as a child, I always wanted to be the one holding the camera (much to my parents’ dismay, since film wasn’t cheap!). After taking photography classes in Boston, I officially started my business in 2014 with my first full-frame camera — a wedding gift from my great aunt. A year later, after my daughter was born, I got my first maternity session call. I almost said no, afraid to leave my newborn, but my father encouraged me: “You can do anything.” That session became one of my favorites, and my business name — Photos to My Children — is now inspired by him.
Life has since taken me from LA to Virginia, where my son was born, and now to Texas, where our youngest, Roberto, completed our family. When Roberto was born, he spent time in the NICU and was diagnosed with PJRT, a heart condition. That experience changed my perspective completely — it reminded me how fragile and precious life truly is.
Photography became more than a passion — it became a way to hold on to the moments that matter most. My mission is to help families freeze time — to capture not just faces, but emotions, love, and connection. As a mom of three, I know how quickly our little ones grow, and I want every family to have tangible memories of each fleeting stage.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is about capturing real, authentic moments — the ones that tell a story beyond just a smile or a pose. I work in a clean, simple, and light-filled style, putting the focus entirely on the person so their story shines through their eyes and emotions. I specialize in family, children, and branding photography, highlighting connections, feelings, and the small details that make each story unique. What sets me apart is my ability to blend artistry with heart: I don’t just take pictures; I preserve memories and emotions that families and entrepreneurs can cherish forever. I also offer a variety of products from an artisan lab — from prints and albums to soldered artwork. The name Photos to My Children comes from my dad. After he passed away, I missed him deeply, and in those moments, I found myself going through old photo albums. Each picture brought back his smile, his laughter, and the way he loved us. Those photos filled my heart with life again and reminded me that love never really fades. One day, our children will want to look back too — leaving photos to your children is a gift they will treasure more than you can imagine.
My journey hasn’t been easy. I graduated as a journalist in Venezuela, but after immigrating, I had to start over in a new language and culture. Photography became my voice and my way to express myself. I built my business from scratch through courses, practice, and every client experience. Balancing motherhood with work and navigating the challenges of running a small business tested me, but perseverance, family support, and my love for storytelling kept me going.
The lessons I’ve learned are simple but powerful: life is fragile and precious, and every moment matters. That’s why I’m passionate about creating photographs that freeze time, capture love, and celebrate life’s fleeting beauty. Through Photos to My Children, I want the world to know my work isn’t just about photography — it’s about preserving the stories, love, and connections that make life meaningful.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would definitely take them around Fulshear and old Katy to enjoy the charming old-town vibe. We’d play some tennis, maybe stop to take pictures around North Blvd in downtown, and in the evening, enjoy a nice dinner and cocktails at MAD or BCN. It would be a mix of fun, relaxation, and great memories — a perfect local experience!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Absolutely. There are a few people who have played incredibly important roles in my journey, both personally and professionally. First, my parents — especially my dad, who is in heaven — believed in me even when I doubted myself. He’s the inspiration behind the name Photos to My Children and the voice that still pushes me forward whenever things get hard. My husband also deserves so much credit — he’s been my anchor through every move, encouraging me to grow, supporting late-night edits, and cheering me on with every new project. And of course, my three children, who are my daily inspiration. They remind me why I do what I do: to capture moments that tell stories of love, growth, and connection.
I’m also deeply grateful for every family who has trusted me to photograph their memories, and for the amazing entrepreneurs I’ve had the privilege to capture during their branding sessions. Their trust, support, and word-of-mouth over the years have shaped my business into what it is today.
