Hi Candra, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
When I started BEDDIEO Construction & Design, I knew I didn’t just want to build homes — I wanted to build people. Every project we touch is rooted in empowerment. It’s about showing our community that construction isn’t just about walls and blueprints — it’s about creating ownership, opportunity, and legacy.

That’s why I created Coffee & Construction™, a hands-on educational experience where people don’t just sit and talk — they walk the sites. We take participants right into the heart of construction projects to explore every trade — framing, electrical, plumbing, design — and see how real development happens from the ground up. It’s about learning by doing, not just listening.

Over time, Coffee & Construction grew into a true movement. It’s even been imitated by others — which to me is a sign that what we’re doing is needed and impactful. But no one can duplicate the authenticity, heart, and vision behind what we built. BEDDIEO started this platform with purpose — to close the knowledge gap and open doors for more people, especially minorities, to enter this industry confidently and profitably.

That same spirit inspired The Developers’ Circle, our mentorship program for 9-to-5 professionals who are ready to become first-time investors, builders, and developers. It’s about collaboration — sharing resources, opportunities, and real strategies that lift entire communities.

And soon, we’re taking it even further with the BEDDIEO School of Real Estate, Construction & Design — a state-approved institution that will train and certify students in everything from the trades to real estate and design. Our goal is to prepare the next generation of builders, leaders, and entrepreneurs who can change their lives through construction.

So when people ask what BEDDIEO does for the community, my answer is simple: we build more than structures — we build people, possibilities, and pathways to generational wealth.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
BEDDIEO Construction & Design is so much more than a construction firm. It is the embodiment of resilience, faith, and generational legacy. I built this brand to create opportunities for people who don’t traditionally see themselves represented in real estate, construction, or development. What sets us apart isn’t just what we build, but how and why we build.

We approach every project with intention from new construction developments to smart home communities. One of the developments I’m most excited about right now is SIXTEEN OAKS at Lavender, our one-of-a-kind affordable luxury, smart, and sustainable micro community. It reflects everything BEDDIEO stands for: innovation, equity, efficiency, and homes built for the future, not just for today.

But what truly separates BEDDIEO is our commitment to education and empowerment. Most construction companies stop at building homes; we build people. That’s why I created the Coffee & Construction Workshop, a hands-on educational experience where we guide people through active job sites, explore every trade, and break down the entire building process in real time. We don’t sit in a room and talk. We put boots on the ground and let people learn by seeing, touching, and walking the work.

Then there is The Developers’ Circle, where everyday 9 to 5 professionals learn how to become first-time investors, builders, and developers. It is mentorship, community, accountability, and collaboration. Watching people shift from fear to confidence, and from confusion to clarity, has been one of the most rewarding parts of this journey.

HOUSE OF BEDDIEO is our luxury home goods and lifestyle brand. It represents the design side of our ecosystem, the elegance, the finish, the beauty that completes every home we build. HOUSE OF BEDDIEO allows people to bring our design philosophy into their everyday lives. It is the perfect bridge between construction, lifestyle, and art.

We are also preparing to launch the BEDDIEO School of Real Estate, Construction & Design, a state-approved institution that will train and certify minority youth and adults in trades, real estate, design, technology, and project management. That is the legacy I’m building.

Getting here wasn’t easy. BEDDIEO has survived frivolous lawsuits, contractor issues, financial setbacks, city delays, and moments where most people would have given up. I went through all of that while being a full-time mom, teacher, and coach. But every challenge sharpened my leadership and deepened my purpose. I learned how to rebuild, restructure, re-strategize, and keep showing up even when things felt heavy.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that your calling will demand a version of you that doesn’t quit. The world will test you, but purpose will protect you if you stay aligned.

What I want people to know about me and about BEDDIEO is simple.
We are proof that you can come from humble beginnings, face impossible obstacles, and still rise to build something that changes lives.

We are not just another construction company. BEDDIEO is a powerful ecosystem with international partnerships, global support, and projects around the world. We are building homes, careers, developers, and generational wealth.

And we are just getting started.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Honestly, I work so much that my friends usually end up showing ME the new places in Houston — not the other way around. But there are a few spots I consider must-visits anytime someone comes to see me. These places never miss, and they always give you a true Houston experience.

My Top 5 Houston Must-Visit Places:

The Post Oak Hotel & Spa — luxury, peace, and the perfect way to start or end any trip.

Bloom & Bee — beautiful brunch vibes with amazing food and even better ambiance.

Taste Kitchen + Bar — one of the top Black-owned restaurants in the city, great vibe, great food, and always a solid choice.

CIEL Houston — stunning atmosphere, gorgeous plates, great energy… it’s an experience, not just a dinner.

The Honey Hole — my go-to breakfast spot… consistent, DELICIOUS, and always a vibe (especially the back room).

These are the places that feel good, look good, and represent the Houston I love — even when I’m spending most of my time working.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Absolutely — first and foremost, I give all glory to God. Every setback, delay, and detour has shaped me into the woman and leader I am today. My faith has been the foundation through everything, reminding me that purpose always outweighs pressure.

I also have to shout out my children because they’re my “why.” They’ve watched me build BEDDIEO from the ground up — balancing motherhood, business, and teaching. Every time they see me on a job site or in a meeting, I want them to know that greatness runs in their DNA.

Professionally, I’m forever grateful for the Houston Black Real Estate Association (HBREA). Organizations like this have created spaces for minority professionals to thrive, connect, and be seen — and that sense of community has been invaluable to my growth as a leader and developer.

I also want to thank my incredible team. BEDDIEO has experienced many altitudes, yet my team has remained consistent, supportive, and knowledgeable through it all. They’re the backbone of what we’ve built.

And lastly, I’m even thankful for the challenges that have shaped this journey — from difficult contractors and demanding clients to my happiest end buyers. Each experience, good or bad, has poured something into the foundation of this brand and into the woman I continue to become.
