We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Pierre and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rachel, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Balance in life, in general, doesn’t exist. As a working mom, wife, and business owner – I can’t possibly balance all of that. Some things are more important at certain times of the day and year, and my family will always have priority over anything I might elect to do. Instead, I try to find a good mix that works for us and keep things in harmony. One of my podcast guests used the word harmony to describe how she does it and I have adopted it as my own. The way I keep all of my responsibilities in harmony and work to shift, adjust, or prioritize is an art form that I’ve worked to perfect over the last 3-4 years. It takes time and plenty of fails to realize that some things that appear important in the moment are not important. The biggest lesson I’ve learned – is to temper my own expectations so I don’t feel that I’m not successful as I try to “balance”.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a content creator I’ve been able to try so many avenues to create. It hasn’t been easy because I generally like a roadmap and there isn’t a direct roadmap for what I’m building. To get where I am now there has been constant trial and error. That is the only thing that has helped me to define the path that I’m on. The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that you can’t be afraid to just jump in and throw yourself out there. So many opportunities that I’ve gotten have come because I applied, worked towards it, connected with someone, or just thew an idea out to my community. The response I’ve gotten lets me know if I’m on the right track or not!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Living outside of Houston has been nice because we have so many gems in my own neighborhood, but we can also hop in the car and get to the center of the city. First thing we’d do is have brunch at Mosquito Cafe and walk around Galveston Beach. Most of my friends and family who visit want to see the beach for at least half a day. I like to cook and we just redid our backyard, so we’ll definitely make personal pizzas on the grill and hang out in the backyard. In Houston, I like to walk around Rice Village to eat and look at the shops. As you can tell, most of my activities revolve around eating!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I joined the Courage to Earn community – mainly on Facebook, a creation of Brandi Riley and it has been amazing. This group is full of successful business owners who are doing everything under the sun and owning the fact that they want to make money while they do it! I didn’t even know what was possible for my platform and this has really shaped my expectations and broadened my viewpoint of what I think success will look like for me and Mommifaceted.
