We had the good fortune of connecting with Vivian Arcidiacono and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Vivian, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
I graduated in 1982 with a degree in Advertising. Imagine how exciting this time was to have the first degree ever offered in this field. Remember this was before Apple, before computers. Over the course of the past decades I have had the incredible fortune of having a career in the same field as designer of brands, art director and photographer. The number one lesson is to remain flexible. And most important, I love what I do, every day makes my life more complete. Love what you do and you will do it well.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I consider myself a glass half full person when I create. Intentionally I have developed a brand of happy, because in the end, what matters to me is that when you see my what I have created, it makes you happy.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Houston, Texas is a world of fun. If you are not from Texas you will need to learn to be a Texan. Tip 1: Get to know BBQ. Learn to love it and have fun finding new BBQ places. Oldest and Best is in Lufkin, TX and Luling, TX. Tip 2: Take the time to do the REAL tour at the NASA Space Center. Visit the Command Center where all decisions were made to get our astronauts back home safe. Just as in the movie Apollo 13 and First Man. It is worth i! Tip 3: When you see a longhorn in the field, stop your car and take a picture. These animals are amazing. Maybe take the time to visit a cowboy. Main thing, get out and see this beautiful state.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would not be here if it were not for an amazing couple that gave me the opportunity to work. Their names are Mike and Audrey Davenport. They own a company called Trademarks Inc. A single mom and new to Houston, they had faith and put me back on my feet. Not a day goes by where I am not grateful. www.tmarks.com Through them I moved into a very successful career with Pappas Ltd. www.pappas.com.
With them, I was able create what I call my ‘main body of work.’ Designed the concepts for The Pappas Brothers Steakhouse, Pappasitos, Pappas Burger and Pappadeaux. Was involved in all areas of design, an amazing opportunity! I felt like a family member and still do. Grateful every day. Last but not least, Texas Children’s Hospital has allowed me to use all my skills for a great cause! Children and their well being. No greater reward. Could not be more proud and grateful.
