We had the good fortune of connecting with Benito Diaz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Benito, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind our success has to be the trust we build with our customers. In this industry there’s always a mechanic ready to take your money without even considering you or your truck. We try very hard every day to build a great relationship with all of our customers.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My career really started when I joined the automotive technology school of UTI. I received a great opportunity at a local Ford dealership as a diesel apprentice thanks to my certifications from UTI. When I was at UTI they would preach about “The Edge”. The edge is that one thing you do different that sets you apart from others. That belief really stuck to me, I applied to everything I did as a technician. From putting every clamp & bolt exactly how I found it to washing the engines when I finished the repairs. After a while I had customers requesting for me to work on their trucks at the dealership. I hate to use the term “chip on my shoulder” but really that’s how I approached every day in the workplace. I always felt like I had to prove myself at everything I did, from diagnostics to repairs I always gave myself that “Edge”. This has definitely not been an easy path to walk, I’ve felt like quitting many times, but the people I have around me have rallied around me with support. Our goals in life sometimes get shadowed by defeat and failures. It’s good to have a good support team to help push you through those dark times. Some of the hardest lessons I’ve had to learn or even deal with is that it’s ok to be wrong. It’s ok for me to disappoint sometimes, I’m my own worst critic. I’ve lost so many nights of sleep due to blaming myself for some of my failures. Probably the thing I’d like the world to know is that it doesn’t matter what kind of truck you own. We’re going to try our very best to take care of you.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh man… that’s a hard time because most of my friends are Gear heads. I would take them to Houston Motorsports park for some drag racing. Houston is a great place for restaurants to thrive in. We have some of the best restaurants, we’d definitely go eat some steaks, some barbecue and Mexican food. It’s crazy I’ve lived in Houston my hole life and I’ve never really been out experience the party life. I’m kind of a boring soul.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The most important person in our success is my wife. She has stood next to me from the very beginning. She’s my motivation on my my worst days & nights. The second most important person in our success is my Brother Tony. He started the shop with me, he’s bled and cried with me during our continued climb to success. Without either of those two we couldn’t make the dream work. It’s really a team effort.
