We had the good fortune of connecting with DJ Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi DJ, how do you think about risk?
To me, taking risks are necessary when it’s time to take that next step into your next chapter. When it’s time to tighten up and make the sacrifices needed to get to where you want to be, I’ve been taking risks all my life and having to change and adapt. But it’s about risk management when rolling the dice, playin your cards right and making the best decisions for you. “Cant discover new lands without losing sight of the shore for awhile.”

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
In my art I try and leave room for interpretation for the viewer but also sharing how I perceived it in that moment. So I just want the world to know you always have to find a way to articulate and express your individualism. Be yourself to the fullest and never tone yourself down to fit and conform to others spaces. Nothings easy but have a plan and trust the process, enjoy the process, fall in love with every aspect of the journey and most of all enjoy how much you learn about yourself. I am most proud of just how much I’ve been able to challenge myself and learn about myself. Going outside of yourself and your world and venturing into new spaces.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In Jacksonville FL, if I got someone coming to visit my go to spot is Leweys seafood & wings! You get a lot for a good price! Not to much of a drinker but we going to get lit! Lol. Some spots I’d go to just to see a view are the Jax beach, memorial park, the board walk. Any other stuff just really depends on who it is and what they like, then I’ll suggest a spot. But some of the most exciting places to me are just social networking events, never know where they’ll be and you’ll meet some great people in great spaces, doing what you do and may share the same interest.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wouldn’t be where I am at without my family, and a small part to every beautiful soul I’ve encountered on my journey. My momma for always being that listening ear when my mind is racing, my pops for stepping up as a step dad and bring my Bestfriend and make figure in my life, my grandfather for being that male role model, my grandmother taught me how to be tough an believe in myself and abilities. Also my Homeboy Gabe for just staying solid since a jit. And most of all my great grandmother who passed in 2011, I could go on for hours about her but she showed me understand and left me with the mental tools to get through life. Any other inspiration comes from the culture, leaders such as Malcolm x, Marcus Garvey, Haile Salassee. A lot of music. The books I read and a lot of my own personal interest, principles and concepts. Also I just thank any and everyone who showed love and support to me, made me feel comfortable enough to be myself and share my interest of photography with the world. That support means a lot to me because outside of family I don’t really receive it.
