We had the good fortune of connecting with Melissa Moss and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Melissa, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I have learned you will never get out of your comfort zone without taking risks. I use to live from a place where if I controlled the situation-I felt as if I was safe. Safe from the fears that were secretly dictating my life and every move. Safe from surprise creeping at the doorstep of my heart. Safe from being hurt or open to any possible aspect of change. I had my routine and I was in control, or so I thought. I was wrapped up into a life of trying to carry the weight of people’s happiness while scarifying the beauty of my own. If I could control their happiness, I wouldn’t have to focus on what was hurting me or what I was scared to let go of. I have realized over these last couple years, that in the greater scheme of things, I don’t have the power to control really anything. Living from the mindset of being safe and not taking risks kept me captive in the walls of my own fears and actually kept me from experiencing the joys of life. The element of surprise brings the beauty of creation’s gifts. It brings invitations of trusting all of what Heaven offers. I have learned that with prayer, trust and risk, we get to take some of the greatest experiences into the unknown and introduced to opportunities that bring us closer to our destiny and closer into His heart for us. Taking risks has brought me into a place of joy, laughter, into seeing the world from a place rest and the lens of beauty. Risks seem scary if we are taking them from a heart posture of control. If we try and manipulate the outcome, we stay captive in the cycles of disbelief. Knowing we aren’t alone in any risk or any moment, risks become the avenues of adventure that were set out just for us.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As of right now, I am a full time homeschool mama. I have worked my entire life, but this season, I believe I am called to homeschool our two girls, Raegan and Taylor. As I am home with them, the dreams of my heart in starting a business have came to life more than ever. I have a hope and desire to start a company that points people to Jesus, who He is, and His heart for each of us. I am in the beginning process of mapping it all out, envisioning every detail, and imagining what will come next. I cannot wait to see the day we break ground and it all comes to fruition. Jesus saved me from a life of heartache, and I want to give every aspect of my being to partnering with Heaven in creating a place where every aspect gives Him all the glory. This has not been an easy road to travel, but being where I am now, I am forever grateful I took that first step. Knowing we have access to the throne room of Heaven and having a solid community around me was the key that helped me through the hardest part of my life. Knowing I wasn’t alone, knowing He is there guiding me through every obstacle, every surprise, every step helped me keep my focus forward and into the tomorrows of my heart. I have learned that if everything fades, He is constant. He is true. I have learned that there are people willing to fight for you, fight with you. That some people will come into your life and sadly, leave. I have learned to be okay with that was such a hard lesson to learn, but it has shown me the beauty of relationship. It has shown me the importance of community that withstands trials and time. Keep these people around. Pray for them. Love them. Be intentional in connection. Communicate the good and the bad. But most of all, I have learned that if everyone leaves, He is there, holding my hand and heart through it all. If I could tell the world anything about my story, it would be: Jesus is alive and loves us each so much. That He is a friend of us and is just waiting for us to take the risk into trust and call out to His name. He will show up every time. I would want to tell the world YOU ARE SO LOVED and have such beautiful purpose.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting the area, I would want to take them to the Arts District downtown. I love everything artsy, adventurous and creative and this is a place in the city that shows the imaginations of Houstonians. I would also love to have a day full of adventure in Old Town Spring. This is a place filled with fun shops, delicious restaurants, and street festivals.Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a shoutout to my husband, Jared for always cheering me on, believing in me, and helping push me into the truth of who I am. He loved me before I could love myself, and I am forever grateful. and of course, shoutout to the Lord – let everything be all for Your glory!
