We had the good fortune of connecting with Marissa Herrera and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marissa, what do you attribute your success to?
In a single word- authenticity. Since day one, what you see is what you get. I try my best every single day to be the real Marissa, who you see in stories is the same person you would see running errands at Target. Glam or no glam, I show it all. The struggles, the challenges, the insecurities, I talk about them all, in hopes of helping other women going through the same things to not feel alone.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I created mommystylefile as a way to share fashion inspiration with other women. I wanted to be a mirror for women who have curvy figures, hips, and not so perfect bodies. There are particular silhouettes and cuts that flatter curvier figures, and not every piece of clothing that looks amazing on a woman who is a size 2, will look amazing on a woman who is a size 10. I try to share fashion and beauty finds that have helped me look and feel my best. In sharing my flaws and being open and honest about my struggles, I hope I am inspiring others. You see, I find inspiration in realness, not in perfection, so I don’t ever try to portray perfect. On my page, you’ll find a mom, who tries hard everyday to balance life, while living life to the fullest. And I squeeze in some shopping and great food too!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would start out with breakfast at The Dunlavy and take beautiful pictures! Then take a scenic stroll through Buffalo Bayou park. We’d definitely head to the Galleria to do some shopping at all my favorite stores. Then we would head to Uptown Park to grab some of my favorite cupcakes at Crave, and stroll around the beautiful shopping center. If the weather is hot, a dip in the Post Oak Hotel pool for some sun and fun is definitely in the books! We’d end the evening with a dinner at one my newest favorite Katy restaurants, Pearl and Vine. A dinner out on the patio is the perfect way to end the day!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My daughter- without her support, encouragement and help (she’s my photographer), there would be no mommystylefile. She encouraged me to start my IG journey, literally helping me to upload pictures and create an IG handle. She’s the reason I overcame my fears and insecurities. I wanted her to see that even mommy was afraid and overcame that fear to accomplish a dream.
