We had the good fortune of connecting with Jannexee Serrano and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jannexee, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I am a singer/songwriter. But most importantly I am a human having a human experience. I really do have the belief that God created us with individual talents and purpose. I stand with the belief that my purpose Is to bring awareness with my writing and music. Whether that be, when I write about our awful immigration system, my faith, or expressing my femininity. The most important factor is being true and growing.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I write and sing songs about who I am. What sets me apart is I really have no problem being vulnerable and sharing my pain and wins through my music. A lot of perseverance is what has gotten me to where I am now. I learned that you do not have to be the best at something to succeed, it comes down to initiative and perseverance. I have recently added dancing to my live performances. Guys, I have two left feet but that’s not a reason to quit. I know if I keep at it, I can only get better not worse. So that’s a lesson for everyone. Master your weaknesses.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ok yikes, I am a homebody so wrong person to ask. Definitely go to Cascabel to eat because it’s vegan Mexican food. And we are going to support small businesses. We would down my favorite local tequila “Don Anastacio” there. Then we would go to “Standard Bar” which is in Washington Ave. And I would hope my favorite Dj and good friend, Dj ActBadd would be the Dj that night, bc perreo time after tequila. The next day would be a chill day and spent at the buffalo bayou park to recharge.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I think there is so many people I need to thank or I would have given up day one without them. For sure my mom, my music manager and friend, Jonathan, my beautiful choreographer and friend, Bre, my amazing dancer and friend, Zulema, and my sisters. This is my support system and forever grateful for their unconditional love and support.
