We had the good fortune of connecting with Dalilah Marroquin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dalilah, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I chose to pursue an artistic career because I found myself struggling to really express myself with things outside of my art ,so I decided to put the extra time I had into what I do best.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m set apart from others because most of my family has already dealt with having small businesses so I am not as stressed because I know I can go to them if I need any help. I’m most excited for the people who will be there to order and support my art because it makes me happy when people appreciate my work. The path to get here wasn’t easy,in fact it took me a long time to really develop the whole concept of selling my art.I see my business one day being the biggest on the market. I know it will take a long time and that there will be ups and downs, but in the end its worth it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
OMG. The first place I would take them is to Discovery Green at night because the city sights are gorgeoussss and the smell of good food travels through the air. The next day I would take them to get some authentic Mexican food at my abuela’s house. After that amazing breakfast we would drive to Galveston to swim in the ocean, after a long walk on the beach we would sit in the sand,raspas in hand and enjoy the sunset. The last couple of days I would probably just take them to see the local city sights.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would have to give quite some credit to my best friend Latavia. She’s the first person who complimented my art and told me I could make something more out of this. Initially, I didn’t think much of it, but the idea of it gradually started to nag my mind, especially when my mom began motivating me with my small projects that I felt weren’t good enough. Thanks to these two I started to do more than just my small projects and expanded my art creations.
