We had the good fortune of connecting with Shacolby Shentell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shacolby, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
What makes me happy is using my God giving gifts as an artist. The opportunity to step out and do what your passionate about, what brings a smile to not only your face but to the world, and provide for your family is a blessing.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I call myself a lover of the arts. I don’t know if I can pick one over the other as far as which do I love the most. Is it the music, the acting, the writing? Although one may be taking the lead over another I enjoy pursuing them all. I started writing and acting in my youth. Sometimes life comes along and takes us away from what we love or are passionate about but I made my way back to it. I never lost the feeling, the desire, the dreams. I was unhappy not doing what lived inside of me. It was easy to dive right into the arts once I got out of my own way which was the biggest problem. The doubt of oneself. Am I good enough? I put the head chatter to rest and stepped out on faith. Believed in myself. I’ve accomplished so much such and creating my own productions, films, music, and gracing many stages across the Houston community. I’ve learned to push through no matter what. Things will not be perfect. There will be days when you want to quit but I look back at my vision and how far I’ve come. I won’t give up on myself. My gift is to be of service to the world through music, through song, through laughter, through film, plays, poetry and if I can touch one doing what I love, I have succeeded.

Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
When I’m out in the great city of Houston, most likely I’m enjoying the great food. Shoutout to Turkeyleg Hut, The Breakfast Club, and 7 Spice just to name a few.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to thank my support team. Mitchell Harkless, Demarje Adair, LaNisha Patterson, Damon Edwards, Aria Hope, Turell Robins, Vanguard Media, … The list goes on and on. I have so many amazing people, leaders that I have learned from and many that just shows up for me know matter what I’m doing and I love them all for it.
