We had the good fortune of connecting with Bea Porter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bea, we’d love to hear about a book that’s had an impact on you.
I read Raving Fans in 2016, and it inspired me to change my entire outlook on how a business should be managed. At that time, I worked full-time as an Admin at a local Houston Private School and provided Social Media Freelancing services on the side. Raving Fans describes how to provide a service so well that your customers become “raving fans” of your business, and in turn, loyal customers. My takeaway from the short read was that if you treat your clients with respect, honesty, and loyalty, and as if you are their number one fan, they will do the same for you. I have taken that lesson into every client interaction since then. I started my agency full time less than a year after reading that book, and I truly believe the success of my business is due to my being each of my clients’ number one fan! Raving Fans: A Revolutionary Approach To Customer Service Hardcover – May 19, 1993 by Ken Blanchard (Author), Sheldon Bowles (Author), Harvey Mackay (Foreword)
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Bea Connected Team started as a fun hobby for me. I had fun creating memes and editing photos for social media. When I decided to start offering social media management services as a freelancer, I began signing up for webinars and events to learn more about how to manage social media for a business rather than personal use. There have been ups and downs, typical of any business, but I owe my success to my network of friends and colleagues, as well as continuing to provide an excellent service to my clients. I started with 1 client in February of 2017 and now in August of 2020, we have multiple social media managers, interns and 17 clients and growing. If I had to pick one thing that we do differently than other agencies, it would be the individual attention our social media managers give to each account. We like for each client to feel like they are our only account and provide them with the attention to detail that each client deserves.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am a born and raised Houstonian and I LOVE this city! Here are a few of my favorite spots: The Waterwall Downtown Graffiti Park The Orange Show Uptown Sushi Japaneiros Blendin Coffee
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I owe my success in business to my friend and colleague, Danny Gavin, Founder of Optidge.com who has offered support and encouragement from the beginning. And to Grace Kubecka, a friend, business owner, and certified yoga teacher who led Yoga Teacher Training at AwakenedYogaStudio.com which helped me find the confidence to take the leap of faith from a 9 – 5 to self-employed.
