We had the good fortune of connecting with Stephan Hatteberg and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Stephan, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
I like to think that my business is helping and will help the community, and eventually the world by empowering people to feel powerful in their own bodies. In calisthenics strong as a relative term. For example, the amount of actual weight that a person supports while doing a plank or push-up may be very different from the weight of another person. So there is no real linear measure for strength, it is entirely relative to your body. Also so much of calisthenics & yoga is assessed with feeling the body while doing the movements. This is important because if we all took a little more time in the day to feel what is happening inside our bodies & out we would treat ourselves and thus each other with a little more compassion.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a Yoga teacher and Calisthenics instructor. I developed CalisthenicsKid to bring Body weight training into the mainstream. The main purpose of CalisthenicsKid is to turn disbelief into confidence. We have several distinctive qualities that we pride ourselves on, firstly we help people develop body weight appropriate strength. We quite proudly shatter the expectations of limitations in strength across genders. We focus on weaknesses instead of playing into strengths, this forces us out of our comfort zone and into growth. The diversity of the group and their abilities creates a forced change in perspective on ones own strength. Our unique approach is three parts: 1 we combine yoga & bodyweight exercises 2 posture correction 3 we teach to all levels of difficulty My commitment to my clients: I will always remain teachable. I will be relentless in my quest to better my understanding of anatomy and the mechanics of movement.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My first shoutout goes to the calisthenics crew. This is a group of people that started a journey together to get in shape through the unique avenue of Calisthenics and ended up being more like family. Much love and appreciation. Second shoutout goes to Anita Jaisinghani & Andrew Dougas. Anita is a restauranteur and entrepreneur, she has helped me grow to the man i am today with 4 years under her employment, she has modeled for me what it means to show compassion to every person that you encounter on the path to perusing your dreams. Andrew Dougas is a Yoga Teacher & Entrepreneur he has mentored me in his style of teaching and given me the greatest opportunity i could have hoped for, the opportunity to change lives for the better everyday. Finally i would like to thank Jennifer Clements for constant support & encouragement to push through the fear every time.
