We had the good fortune of connecting with Lloyd Lindley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lloyd, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
LAMP Services has to founders: Lloyd Lindley Jr. and Clarence Patrick Francis. Both founders are born and raised in Houston, TX. We grew up in the same neighborhood and share the same birthday which is St. Patrick’s Day. Our upbringing was similar with always wanting to give back through volunteering or any philanthropic means. This lead to us forming a nonprofit organization to give back and leave a lineage for the youth. LAMP Services 501(c)3 is a nonprofit organization focusing on youth mentoring and development for the underserved communities in Houston. LAMP is an acronym for Living a Meaningful Purpose. LAMP Services 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization was founded in 2019 and is headquartered in Houston, Texas. LAMP Services’ objective is to educate the youth through financial literacy, physical fitness, mental health awareness, and philanthropy. The goal is to empower young people and educate them with life skills that they can use for the rest of their lives.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
LAMP Services’ programs and resources are to empower the underserved as well provide a platform or voice for anyone who may feel powerless and in need. Through the programs and activities led by LAMP Services in the community, we have been able to partner with other nonprofits, schools, churches, and individuals that have the same vision and purpose for a larger impact. Over 2,000 young people’s lives have been impacted with positivity because of our services. LAMP Services’ collaborative efforts with different partners have been rewarding; however, making a lasting impact and bringing awareness to causes that may go unnoticed is most important. LAMP Services seeks operations to create change at the root of the problem. By providing new insights from a ground level, we will produce meaningful and measurable results. For example, financial literacy should be a priority in school and at home, however, it is not taught in school and usually not discussed at home. LAMP Services will provide programs on credit, how to balance a checkbook, investing, home-buying, scholarships, life insurance, and more. LAMP Services will offer resources for all aspects including mental health with the growing issue of cyber-bullying due to social media. In addition, an emphasis on community involvement though philanthropic efforts will be offered to show young people the importance of giving back. Lastly, law enforcement will have a forum to engage with young people to ease tensions and regain the trust for social equality.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Living in the most diverse city in the United States has its privileges. So if a good friend was in town visiting we would split up the fun. Food…you have to have Texas Barbeque! I would take them to a place called Corkscrew BBQ located in Old Spring, then go out to The Woodlands for a concert at Cynthia Woods Pavilion. An adventure day is a must! I would take them jet-skiing in Kemah, then go saltwater fishing in Seabrook. No trip to Houston would be complete if you do not experience the Turkey Leg Hut! Of course, you have to hit up one of the patio spots like 5015 for live music and vibrant crowd! Last but not least, I would take them to eat some spicy crawfish at The Boot in the Heights area. Finally, I would take them to have some cold daquiris from our favorite spot Posh Daquiri Lounge and play some games out on their amazing patio!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
LAMP Services offers a program that is in direct response to the growing number of young people that are falling through the cracks at school. The goal of the program is to identify youths who are going to have a turbulent transition to adulthood and offer a positive support system to avoid the pitfalls that can derail their lives. The focus is slightly different at each level but the goal remains the same; empower the young person to make positive changes in his/her life. In 2021, LAMP Services has received funding to develop a innovative mentoring program for improving the outcome of underserved youth through innovation. The goal is to serve twenty young people each year using volunteer mentors, with outcomes that include improved social skills, physical fitness, and financial literacy.
