We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrea Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Andrea, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Writers in particular, take huge risks every time they put pen to paper in my opinion. I say that because whether it’s a song, a book, or an article, you are putting not just your work out there for all to see, but you’re putting yourself in the spotlight. Whether it be fiction or non-fiction, you expose parts of yourself to the world when you put your thoughts on paper. It may not resemble you at all, but because it came from you; you’re in there somewhere and often you pray that some keen-eyed reader won’t find you. That said, writing is especially risky for me because I’m a tad bit introverted. This business forces me to go way beyond my natural limits as far being social.

It also caused me to take a leap of faith. I’ve always loved to write but was afraid to just do it. Afraid no one would read my work; afraid, afraid, afraid. But I put everything, including my fears, aside to do the work God has called me to do and I have never felt more fulfilled in my life. We glorify God when we use the gifts He’s given us to strengthen and encourage others in Him. That is my goal in life.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have a unique writing style that sets me apart from all other authors. God has tasked me with writing stories that teach people about Him in a way that is relatable and easy to grasp. The Bible is packed with precepts and “hidden treasures” and He has gifted me to bring them to light through fiction. My writing pseudonym is A E Thomas and my most recent book, “Divine Encounters,” is a perfect example. It’s a simple story about a Christian man and woman trying to date amidst lots of secrets, pent-up passion, and enemies posing as friends. They’re not super-heroes nor are they perfect. They are just two people whose paths cross and through a series of divine encounters (we all have them) their worlds are turned upside down. Hasn’t that ever happened to you?

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a resident as well as a huge fan huge fan of the northside – the Spring, TX area. So, if I had a friend visiting I would have to start with lunch at a local fave like Pappadeaux’s. If you live here you tend to think it’s no big deal but great Cajun cuisine is not the norm in many other parts of the country. We would also go to the nearby Woodland’s Mall and do some shopping and take the Waterway trolley around the whole area. You get to see the sights while via a nice boat ride along the river. Of course, we would also have to walk around Market street, shop, listen to the live bands and duck into Sweet Paris Creperie & Cafe for crepes and coffee. If it’s not too hot, we would stroll the walking trail at beautiful Meyer Park to stretch and get some exercise. Depending on the scheduled performer, we might also enjoy an outdoor concert at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mother Thomasina, was my biggest cheerleader. She went home to be with the Lord in 2008 but the love and inner strength she instilled in me lives on in my soul and spirit. My mother always pushed me to do better and taught me to trust in God and not in mankind. I still hear her telling me “At least try it, Andrea!” So when I feel like giving up those words start beating on my heart like a drum and I start doing what my mind was trying to tell me I could not do. She was so supportive and never let me forget that I had to push forward and stay on my path no matter what came my way.
