We had the good fortune of connecting with Mykell Hawkins and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mykell, why did you pursue a creative career?
My name is Mykell Hawkins, I’m known as Kells. I’m a 5 year old kid from Houston,Texas. I’ve been talking since I was roughly the age of 9-10 months. Unbelievable, right ? Yes I know. As I got older I wasn’t interested into the normal things kids like of course I play with baby dolls but I love singing old school music, dancing and doing skits. I wasn’t taught to do these things , I picked up on the greater enjoyment of life on my own. I then started getting into making my own money as I watch my mom work, I started taking her clients and pretend I’m doing their hair or turn it into a restaurant, my customer service is splendid by the way. My mom came up with the idea that I become a candy girl. I held my first curbside opening, it went really well. I’m preparing myself for the summer where I’ll be the neighborhood candy girl selling all kinds of treats. I started calling myself Rich Kells then after. More projects are in the making, stay tuned.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m creative, bubbly, adventurous and majority of the time you never know what’s next with me. Due to me being only 5 years old I get misunderstood by people: older and young ,they don’t believe I’m this little person with a big imagination and broad vocabulary. Often when I’m asked questions and I respond, the reactions are always a jaw dropping moment to where my mom is always asked what’s my real age. I love being me.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I always invite others to my house for crab legs , my mom makes the best . I’m all about adventure. To hang with me you have to be down to get dirty and do spontaneous dare devil activities: tree climbing ,flipping.diving from big water slides into pools.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Daddy ,Nana Tamara, Nanny Morgs,Uncle Nick Nick, My Brother, Uncle John, Uncle Turk,My Big Brother Dae Dae and My Little Sister Ayvri. I love my family.
