We had the good fortune of connecting with Shanise Pimentel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shanise, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
The best habits to succeed for me are consistency, always be open to learn new things and work hard for what you want. There will be long nights and days but when you want it you go for it. Also give without expecting to receive anything back the more you give the more you will receive.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am pretty sure most of us in the baking world do this out of love and passion for baking, I love baking and decorating cakes but I most definitely love more the reaction of my customers. Is the best feeling in the world the happiness they reflect back.
My why in my business is to make every single customer feel happy and special in their special day. This has not being easy it has taken years to learn and to build something it takes consistency and lots of time. Practice and lots of work.
I have being baking and cake decorating for 12 years now it all started one day that I need it more income and a friend had tasted a cake I had made and they asked me if i could make one for their daughter first birthday i told them i dont do this as a business but i could make you one and gifted to you guys. After that i went to a craft store and noticed they where teaching cake decorating and i enrolled in the classes took all of them and went on to making cakes for friends and family part time due to having a full time job. After 14 years of working for retail I decided to go back to study i was in between Pharmacy and Medical Assistant and somehow i landed at a Culinary School of Lenotre and i can tell you as soon as i went in there i felt so much happiness and that I had found a passion. In 2016 I graduated summa cum laude as a Certified Pastry Chef. And then i went in to baking and making cakes for others. I enrolled in other classes outside culinary to learn more in how to drive traffic to my own business and learn more about cottage laws here in Texas and the adventure started. I also got to teach cake decorating classes the same way i learned in the beginning at that craft store and thats when i learn to trust in my self and to realize that this was truly my gift.
I have learned that you will have lots of doubts in every step of the way but if you dont trust your self the path becomes very stressful and uncertain. But I assure you that as soon as you believe in your gift and you start working towards your dream and passion everything just starts happening.
Work with passion out of love and for love dont let nothing stop you reaching your goals and dreams and like my Daddy used to tell me “the sky is the limit”. I am here to make others feel happy and special and i can do in a special way.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to different places I personally like for example Space Center Houston, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston Museum of Natural Science, the Children’s Museum of Houston, Holocaust Museum, Hermann Park, with the Houston Zoo, I love museums and having kids is a plus since i go with them to their field trips also and visit lots of this places with them. I would also take them to visit all the Street Art we have around Houston to take pictures and enjoy the beauty of them. I would take them to eat at some of my favorite restaurants in town like Texas Rd House, Michy’s Chino Boricua is a Chinese restaurant with Chinese food and puertorrican food together nothing like a restaurant that reminds you of home, Arandas and Taqueria el Rodeo de Jalisco for one of the best Mexican restaurants that I have being.
And would take them to Galveston and Keemah Boardwalk to walk around, also to Galeria Mall and Deerbrook Mall.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate this to my kids the ones that push me everyday, the ones that constantly remind me that they are watching every little move I make and that I need to keep pushing for them more than anything in this life.
I will shout out two very special friends that support me, mentor me, encourage me and more they are Candy Ramirez from Candy Queen Bee Baker and Rebecca Martinez from Petit Delite they are my constant reminder of when you really want something you fight until you have it.
Nothing in life should stop you from your own dreams. And I am grateful for the gift God gave me to be able to create and make others feel special and smile. Without him I am nothing.
