We had the good fortune of connecting with Shawn Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shawn, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
As most small businesses, it started as a hobby. Although I am a decent cook, have never been good at baking. So when Covid came into our lives, it became an opportunity to learn a new skills. I quickly fell in love with the science behind baking, and learning how the ingredients worked together. One thing led to another, and Pioneer Woman’s Bakery was born.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My whole working career experience has been in the medical field. I worked at our local hospital for 7 years before transitioning to baking. I believe the skills I learned as a leader came from my background in the medical field. You learn to think quickly and to adapt even quicker. The bedside manners I learned also makes it very natural to connect with my customers. My heart goes out to our nurses, heros without capes and they inspired me to continue to do my part in helping the community by providing high quality sweets, nature’s best healing adgent.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is a hard question because I most definitely an introvert. If you want a real party, you’re going to have to come to my house. Haha. I have the most fun when I’m around a home cooked meal, ideally Mexican, with bottomless margaritas, dancing, and laughter. My favorite people are those with a story. I want to hear how you met your husband over a bon fire or how that one time you got stopped by the police for trying to drive while eating a 4 curse meal. I love down to earth people doing down to earth things.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Yes, there are many that helped me on my journey. One in particular is Alicia’s Sweet Obsession. Alicia personally helped me to find a home in the baking world, make my business unique, and she encouraged me to keep going even when some days looked dark. I’m grateful to her leadership skills and friends that helped me get to this point.
