We had the good fortune of connecting with Sir Thomas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sir, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I’m inspired by a vast array of different things. Every day life, someone else’s work ethic, meaningful conversations, music, anime, Kung fu movies (Bruce Lee specifically), the Bible, emotions, success, failure, and my family.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think being myself is what sets me apart. That should be the distinction between every creative is being yourself. Of course we all learn from other creatives especially those we admire but there is a difference between copying and taking notes. I have taken a lot of notes to form my own style. Take Bruce Lee for instance, he studied many different fighting styles to form his own style. A style that could adapt to any opponent. I incorporate that philosophy in my creative approach. GOD has blessed me to come across the right people to open doors as well as encourage me to keep going in order to get to where I am today. The process has not been easy. There have been many obstacles but when you know something is your niche, whatever that something is, there is something in you that won’t let you quit. I tried quitting before but GOD kept blessing me with opportunities to continue to pursue being a Spoken Word Artist. So essentially that period where I thought I quit it was more so me remembering my why. The lesson I had to learn was always remember why I’m doing this and don’t get caught up on what I’m trying to do and the obstacles that may have been stopping me. I had to learn to adjust and keep moving.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A good portion of the day would involve food because I’m a foodie. First I would take them to the Breakfast Klub. You have to eat there at least once. It’s an experience and the food is great. After that, go to the Galleria Mall and do a little shopping. Also a good chance to walk off some of the food we just finished eating lol. Then take a tour of historic neighborhoods in Houston. After that, go to top golf. A chance to grab lunch and have some fun being terrible at golf. Go to lake woodlands to have some time to relax and reflect. Then have dinner at Peli Peli.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mother Sandra Williams, My wife Melanie Thomas, My kids Micah and Cherish, and the rest of my family and friends that consistently support and encourage me.
