We had the good fortune of connecting with Landon Glenn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Landon, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Happiness, before starting our show I thought about what brought me happiness prior to diving into the corporate world, and the answer to that was writing, creating, telling stories through music and script.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
KSP is a podcast that puts an entertaining comedic spin on social media. It is a Charlotte based podcast. When you’re scrolling your timeline you see everything from entertaining meme’s to news headlines, and discussion topics. We take the talk of every week mix it in with some politics, entertainment news, and sports and deliver what we call “infotainment”. The unique way in which we discuss the topics with a no holds barred approach and a comedic imagination helps us stand out from the competition.
This podcast started has an outline I wrote for a friend of mine in LA who wanted to get back in to the creative space with content creation. Shortly after emailing him over the concept he loved it! Only set back was he wouldn’t be able to execute on it it because his life was taking an unforeseen turn at the time, but he encouraged me to get started building an audience and doing the show myself so when he was in a good place we could reconvene. At first I was opposed to the idea, i hadn’t spoken on a mic in 10 years and honestly where would i find the time or a co host. Well after several days of thought i sent the concept over to a good friend of mine Johnny Guthrie and he said “if you wanna do it, then I’m all for being a host”. So Saturday May 5 2018 we shot our first episode and we haven’t looked back since then.
The chemistry between the host makes this show easy to do but the difficulty in podcasting comes with growing an audience large enough too monetize from. The unique ways in which we’ve been able to grow is through collaborations with other podcast, Facebook ads, and interviews. We’ve been featured on shows such as “WGN Clt”, “The Heauxbag”, and “Ubiquitous Blacks” to name a few. We’ve also had the privilege to sit down with actor/musician “Derrius Logan” who was featured in HBO’s “Insecure” and many others (who i cant name cause the episodes haven’t been released yet). We constantly get inquiries about interviews and collaborations because we’ve built a brand based on consistency, providing colorful commentary, and being authentic to ourselves and what we believe in has individuals.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Our favorite spots in Houston or things to do in the area are baseball games at Tropicana field or catching the Rockets at the lovely Toyota center. The patios at Karbach Brewery, Prospect Park, and Bar 5015. Happy Hour at Annies Cafe and Breakfast at Snooze.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to recognize my team Johnny, James and Dionah for showing up from week to week and all our supporters, listeners, family and friends who keep us going.
