We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimberly and Miriam and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kimberly and, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
PWR WMN was created by two best friends who wanted a simple thing: pockets. We grew tired of never having the tools we needed to be 100% ready for business at all times. We wanted clothes that portrayed our confidence, but also helped us close that deal because we were ready, so we created PWR WMN. Our clothes highlight the strength our femininity brings to the table, and the extra pockets don’t hurt either!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We started this company with our own savings, a full time job, and newborn baby in tow! Miriam works full time in sales six days a week, over seventy hours, and hustles to take PWR WMN to its full potential. Kimberly is a new mom and decided to jump head-first into entrepreneurship, which meant quitting her job and dedicating herself fully to her baby, Sophia, and PWR WMN. With the help of our incredible husbands and supportive families, we’ve been able to see PWR WMN grow faster than we EVER imagined! It has been difficult and every business comes with challenges, but we have always stayed grounded and pivoted when needed. PWR WMN strives to provide women with the armor they need to be more than ready for everything that comes their way. We want to level the playing field in every way possible, something as simple as pockets should be for everyone, but evidently in fashion, they are not. A PWR WMN should be able to feel feminine AND strong. Those two things are not mutually exclusive, they are both essential to the expression of a PWR WMN and we shouldn’t have to hide one to feel the other. Our Blazers and clothes offer the pockets every woman NEEDS while highlighting the unique woman she IS. All of our blazers and sets are fully equipped with functional pockets. On our blazers (except the She’s Versatile which is reversible and has pockets on both sides), there are two, deep and functional pockets on the outside, big enough for a large iphone, wallet, keys, etc. On the inside of our blazers there are lipstick/tampon/pen pockets along with a large pocket for business cards, credit cards, or compact powder makeup to freshen up! In addition to being generously equipped with pockets all of our blazers have beautiful, fun, feminine lining! At the moment we have 5 blazers: The Everyday Blazer which is offered in four colors (baby blue, navy, blush, and black), the Gloria, the She’s Versatile (completely reversible), the LBB, and the Mad Plaid. We also offer pants with the type of material that makes you never want to take them off! Our PWR WMN SKNY PNT feels like a legging but looks like a professional pant. We offer it in emerald green, navy, and plaid. For a more relaxed look we have a pink, wide-leg, paper bag pant that comes in breathable and fluid material that’ll make you look like you’re floating!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We love being outside especially when the weather is nice! We always take our friends to breweries like Karbach and St. Arnolds! We also love MEXICAN food and love going to El Tiempo in Washington. Discovery Green Park is also so much and we love going out there for a walk and picnics!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
One of our biggest mentors has been Rachel Sipperly, CEO and Founder from Rent My Wardrobe in Dallas. We met with her before we launched PWR WMN and she was the one that encouraged us to start selling, even though we felt like we were not ready. This was a huge game changer for us, we were able to pre-sale so many of our blazers and get the word out about our brand. Without her words of encouragement and push to start selling our blazers, our launch might have taken much longer. She has continuously throughout the years shown support and is still an amazing mentor to us!
