Meet Alicia Brooks | Cosmetologist : owner of Her Royal Hair Salon

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alicia Brooks and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alicia, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my own business if I can be transparent was three different emotions. I was scared, fearful, but also determined. I was determined that no matter what happened I would give it my best, even when I felt like giving up I would put my best foot forward! A wise man once told me “If you fail to plan, plan to fail” ~Lawrence Brooks~ Being your own boss takes self discipline as well as thoughtful planning! We are our biggest obstacles and once we face ourselves and face the fear of failing ourselves, that’s when we unlock the keys to success! I’m only trying to out do myself each and every day, I’m my biggest competition not anyone else.

What should our readers know about your business?
My business is located in Pearland Tx. . Being born and raised in Dover, Delaware then later moving to Pearland ,tx. I thought it was only fitting for me to plant my business in Pearland. I want everyone who comes into my salon to feel welcomed, loved , and to be treated like Royalty. We all have a story and no matter our scars are beautiful and deserve a crown! That’s why I came up with the name Her Royal Hair salon based off the scripture located in 1 Peter 2:9. I wanted my salon to not be like your traditional salon where you wait for hours to be seen, offered a quick service and pushed out the door. I wanted to take the time out and build a special relationship with each and everyone of my clients. Its not only about doing hair behind the chair that’s the first part, but it’s also about being a listing ear to each and every person that comes into the salon, and giving back to the community. Getting to where I am today wasn’t easy, but with plenty of prayers, love and support God has made this possible. I have learned so many lessons good and bad being a young entrepreneur. I started my business when I was twenty four years old. I felt like I wasn’t ready because I still had so much to learn. I quickly realized that in whatever career path you chose you are constantly learning how to perfect your craft. After getting over the fear of being too young it was the fear of the unknown. Not having and actual schedule guaranteed income. Being your own boss takes strong faith! Sometimes you have good weeks and others may be slow. . It’s learning how to still keep your mind focused on the task at hand even when you don’t see how things may work out. You can’t let fear have you being afraid to spread your wings and fly! I want the world to know that hair is my passion, it’s what I love to do! I want the world to know that it’s not just a job for me, but its a ministry. I touch so many lives just from behind the chair! Her Royal hair Salon is not your ordinary salon. It’s where you can grow, learn, and have a peaceful environment, where your learn to love yourself again. We are changing lives one hairstyle at a time.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love Houston! Growing up on such a very small town where you have to travel a few houses to really have a good time. I love visiting Bay Brook mall! I take all of my family and friend there when they visit! It’s a one stop shop. You can shop, eat, and have a good time all at one place!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to first of all shout-out God! Without him none of this will be possible! I also want to shout -out my family they are truly my biggest supporters. (Kahlil, Maria, Jerrious, Terry, Kelsey, Aliyah, Alexis, Torin, and Lawrence) I also want to give a huge shout out to Studio four:thirteen salon suites owned by Mrs. Toni for allowing me to start this journey of being a Entrepreneur. I also want to shout-out Throne Room Global Ministries my church family for all of there prayers, love, and support!
