We had the good fortune of connecting with Danielle Fairbairn-Bland and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Danielle, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
One of the most important lessons that my business has taught me is that there is room for everyone to make an impact! There is power in collaborating with other businesses and organizations in order to achieve a collective goal. At Uplifting Hearts Counseling, our goal is to offer quality mental health support to individuals and normalize healing and wellness. We’ve collaborated with other mental health providers and community organizations to raise mental health awareness and dispel the myths associated with mental health support. Through podcasts, community events, workshops, social media events, speaking engagements- we’ve been able to connect individuals to coaches, therapists and healers that can support their healing journey. Our network has grown and we are proud to be able to support other organizations that are aligned with our vision and are making an impact.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Uplifting Hearts Counseling is a virtual mental health practice offering counseling support to children, teens and families residing in New York. Our goal is to offer perspectives that promote authenticity, wholeness and healing. Through individual and family counseling, we help individuals gain emotional liberation and identify tools to conquer life’s challenges.
I’m most proud of being able to offer mental health support that is grounded in compassion and understanding to BIPOC communities. Seeking therapy isn’t an easy decision and doesn’t feel like an option for some. I’m proud that we can support individuals along their healing journey while acknowledging the impact of culture, language, age, race and gender. We view those that we support as dynamic and recognize that each person is an expert in their life. We honor their life decisions, life experiences and recognize their value.
Getting to where I am now in my business hasn’t been easy. The work that I do is “heart work”. It can pull at every fiber of your body and can be draining at times. The clinical aspect of the work is extremely sacred as I am supporting individuals throughout their lives. The business aspect of the work is just as challenging as it requires knowledge and expertise that doesn’t come as natural as the clinical work. I’ve learned to focus on the areas that come natural to me and seek the support of experts that can focus on the systems that I’m unfamiliar with. I’ve been in the field of Human Services for over 15 years and have learned a lot along the way. An important lesson that I’ve learned is to press pause when necessary but don’t give up! My drive and motivation supercedes any challenge that I’ve experienced. I reflect on my WHY and remember that I’m capable and equipped to do the work that I’ve been called to do. My faith and trust in God also guides me through challenges and setbacks. I know that the work that I’m doing has the power to heal generations and that’s enough for me to keep going!
I want the world to know that we all have a purpose and can make an impact! Uplifting Hearts Counseling is my contribution to the world and I’m grateful that individuals invite us into their lives to support their journey to healing.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
None of my achievements would be possible without those that cheer for me, offer guidance and pray for me. I’m blessed to have a supportive circle of family and friends that value my contributions and root for me every chance that they get. When I am experiencing challenges and feeling overwhelmed with balancing business and personal life, my family and friends allow me to be human and provide the reassurance I need to reset. Every achievement is a way for me to honor my elders, ancestors and generations to come.
