We had the good fortune of connecting with Olena Komlieva and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Olena, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
I am doing an innovative type of manicure and pedicure that is gaining popularity in the USA. This is a deep and gentle cleansing of the cuticle with a special e-file machine, which allows you to make a cleaner and more accurate manicure and preserve its beauty for a longer period. I also use a new technique for applying materials that allow for super perfect coverage.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been doing manicure since 2014. I studied and received my first certificate in Ukraine. I learned on the nails of my friends and family, tried hard to practice a lot and develop skills. Then I took training in Ukrainian and Russian manicure schools. I have taken a lot of online courses. There was a lot of information that I wanted to know, to work out in practice. I liked it, but I didn’t even think that I could reach the level at which I am now.
After moving to the USA, I studied at a local manicure school for six months, we studied theory and many hours of practice. It was difficult because English is not my native language and the type of service is different from what I studied in Ukraine. But I remembered why I was studying, I wanted to make my hobby my business, I tried my best and got a license. Thanks to this, in 2019 I was able to open my own studio.
I can’t say that it was difficult to find clients. Many girls from Russian-speaking countries were looking for a master who would do this type of manicure, as it is very popular in our countries. Also, many already know about Russian manicure in the USA. Now, to get a manicure, you need to make an appointment several weeks in advance. I even keep a waiting list for clients.
My training never stops. I am constantly taking refresher courses or learning new techniques. There are a lot of novelties and novelties coming out, I don’t want to stand still.
Looking back, I am very grateful to myself for being in my place. Yes, sometimes it was difficult, and I wanted to give up everything, but I know for sure that I am doing what I love and I want to go only forward. I realized one thing – in any profession there are many good moments and difficulties, the main thing is to find your vocation, what you like to do, and start doing it with pleasure.
I dream that more people will know about this type of manicure, so that more people will try the quality that I will provide you. I want not only to provide services, but also to transfer my knowledge to other masters. I really want to open a Russian manicure school in 2022.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am grateful to my family for supporting my interest in the profession. I am grateful to my friends, whom I learned to do manicure, despite the fact that at the beginning my work was not as good as it is now, they supported me and believed in me. I am grateful to every client who was and is in my life – everyone made me more experienced!
