We had the good fortune of connecting with Reneicia Bowen-Palmer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Reneicia, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
At the time I was dealing with anxiety & postpartum depression. As I started making candles it became my therapy and I knew there had to be others who get this way too. I really wanted to create a safe product that can actually make a difference in the way my customers are feeling.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What sets Twelve21 Candle Studio apart from any other brand is our ability to provide clean, eco-friendly candles that allows our customer to experience a change in their mood.

I am Most proud about my ability to learn on the go, I’ve taught myself & researched everything I know and I’m only getting better at my craft.

I got where I am today business wise because I never quit. Even when I didn’t know how things were going to work out I still kept going & kept learning.

I’ve learned Over the past 4 years that you have to be willing to take risks and bet on yourself. Information is readily available and not everyone will help you. Write out your goals and dreams and get to work, fine people that want to help you win.

I want the world to know that Twelve21 Candle Studio is a brand here to shed light on anxiety & depression as well provide a resource with our products that helps to alleviate stress.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love to eat so I would definitively start with brunch at Kokomonyc. We would visit the Moma museum, definitely some shopping in soho. Dinner at my favorite restaurant The chart House in Weehawken. Soco on Myrtle ave and bar hoping in Williamsburg.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would definitely have to say my husband and kids as well as my dear friend Nikki. They all have supported and encouraged me throughout this entire process. My husband has encouraged and helps me with so many intricate aspects of the business.
