We had the good fortune of connecting with Shawntiara “Tee” Dodson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shawntiara “Tee”, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
The most important decision I’ve made that contributed to my success was to always remain myself no matter what!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
For the longest I have been a lifestyle content creator under the YouTube “Tee Rekelee”. Recently I made a drastic shift into the YouTube Gaming space under the channel “ThatGirlGames”. I am creating one-of-a-kind journeys for my subscribers in each video that I release. Frights, frills, screams, and rants. This is only a fraction of the fun that I’m serving over on the new “ThatGirlGames” channel. Making the decision to be a content creator was already a tough one. Switching to the gaming space is even MORE risky as it’s niche and saturated. There will always be challenges when creating content: what to play, I’m feeling lazy, will they watch – but those are frequent roadblocks that will always revisit a creator. Developing the always forward mindset and reminding yourself that you’re creating the content because it’s something you love to do will always aid in nullifying any discouraging thoughts or challenges.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
A week long itinerary is quite long. I am a homebody most of the time so creating an in-home adventure or experience would likely be my go to. Primary focus would just be the quality-time I am spending with my best-friend. If I absolutely have to name some stops, they would most likely consist of an escape room, Whataburger (especially if best friend isn’t from Texas), a casual stroll through City Centre, and some fun after dark at any local bar/club.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
When taking the leap into the social media lifestyle as a career, it’s inevitable that many will be skeptical, and only few will actually support. I would like to give a shoutout to my close friends who have always pushed me to continue doing what I love and that have supported my content— no matter how silly and wild it gets sometimes! I’d like to thank my boyfriend for always pushing me to learn new things and take whatever I do to the next level. He’s a big reason that I’ll never give up on my passion. We’re both dreamchasers, and we love that about one another. Most importantly, my family. They are the reason I have become the woman I am today. From always talking about my funny content to asking to see some of my earliest videos, they do their best to support the cause!
