We had the good fortune of connecting with Kiara Rivera and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kiara, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Hi I’m Kiara the owner of Glamour curl Hair salon. When I opened my business I was 2 months postpartum from my second daughter. During that pregnancy I told myself I wanted to discipline myself with saving in order to have the proper funds available for when I gave birth. Not to mention this was in the middle of a pandemic. After months of saving I had reached my goal and more. I then told my self what could I do with the remainder of the funds I have? I had a voice in me that said expand your brand. Ofcourse I became discouraged and said how could I do this but I knew I needed to do something that would build Financial wealth and freedom for my children but most importantly something that would allow me to be an active mom.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What I am most excited about in my career is having a positive impact on others and to be a continuous mentor to those that feel like they can’t do it. To get to where I am today it took a lot of trial and error. I had to work for places of employment that ofcourse I did not like but during that time help build character and mold me into the business owner I am today. Was it easy? No! Did I feel like giving up at times? Yes. What kept me going is knowing there is more to life than having to live a life of struggle. God is key in this walk of life. Without him in your corner it can be very challenging trying to achieve certain goals in life. What I have learned along the way is life will throw curve balls but you have to stay mentally strong, you have to speak positive thoughts and you have to remain true to yourself. You’re going to do a lot of things in life that is not your calling, but during that time you will begin to discover your true self. You will have to do things you may hate but holding onto the bigger picture is what will keep you going and telling yourself this is all apart of the journey and is only temporary. With my brand I want people to know they will always have a safe place to be themselves and express who they are behind the beauty of art. I want the world to know that if a single mother of two can do it with little to nothing the sky is the limit.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Houston is such a diverse city. With so many food options and amazing site seeing views. I have a few place’s I recommend checking out. First place is Midtown. You’ll have the opportunity to bar hop and explore different music and vibes. Second place I suggest is Montrose, in which you’ll find amazing restaurants with such authenticity. If you’re interested in shopping then the Galleria is the place to go with almost every store brand you can think of.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would personally like to send a shout out to God, my family and friends for always encouraging me and supporting my crazy ideas. Lastly to my two daughters for not knowing the empire I’m building but still being able to love me in all the versions they get me. Because of them I have been able to push my self to my absolute greatness.
