We had the good fortune of connecting with Autumn Beviacqua and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Autumn, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
This line of work has taught me how to assert my worth and accept nothing less than what I deserve. This can mean many different things for different projects, but ultimately, I have come to truly believe and know that I am capable of everything that my “superiors” are doing. I spent so long feeling that being underpaid and overworked was just going to be my responsibility for some years, but I have found that people pay more attention and give more opportunities to those who create those opportunities for themselves.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been singing and entertaining since before I can remember. I have extreme vision issues which had me in “coke bottle” glasses from the age of 9 months until I started wearing contacts at 11 years old. I have always had that insecurity on my back, but performance was ironically my escape from that. I suppose the reason for that, is that I am confident in myself with the things I am passionate about, and so when it comes to singing and playing instruments. I crave the attention from others, because I’ve spent so much of my life practicing my crafts. I wish to be that for a young person one day. I want to be the person that inspires a young artist to get on stage or in front of a camera and thrive on the nerves that come with it. I wouldn’t be anywhere had I not been so nervous and unsure of my abilties at times, only to prove to myself that this path I’ve chosen is the right one for me.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite neighborhood in the city of Houston is Eastwood. I love the houses, parks and low-key atmosphere that come along with it. I have worked at Bohemeo’s for over 3 years and it has become my home away from home. The people I have me through working there have been my friends for years now and they’re all so important to me. I also recommend exploring the city through cycling. There are so many little spots that you could easily miss though public transportation or in a car. I often frequent places like Phoenicia, Retrospect, Antedote, etc. This city is incredible in its diversity, and the food/coffee is the best part.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have had the honor and privilege of having so many amazing individuals push me to do what I’m doing. In no particular order, I would like to shoutout Avant Media Institute, my parents, my former band directors, Joseph Escamilla, Mark Benavides, Stuart Obannon, Phil Bassman, all of my incredible friends and family, and my loving and endlessly supportive boyfriend Mark Grantham.
