We had the good fortune of connecting with Berenice&Edson Torres and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Berenice&Edson, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
While my wife was pregnant she would really crave a Mexican Elote, theres plenty in the houston area but there wasnt any like the street corn in Monterrey. So we decided to start our small business of Elotes with our own “Regio” twist.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
-Being here has not been easy, you have to meet many requirements to operate a food business. But the hunger to grow has helped us in every obstacle. We have learned that success depends on ourselves. We are proud to say that we have been fighting from below, here no one gives us anything and we must continue to ‘echarle ganas’ with what we have. We want the city to distinguish us for being the most Mexican Elotes with products from our region.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We mostly like going out to Buffalo Bayou to have a good time and enjoy the view of downtown. In the afternoons going out to La Tostada Regia for an Enchiladas Norteñas and sometimes for dinner we go to get some tacos from “El Toro” at Channelview, they have really similar taste like the tacos in Monterrey! Also we Go to get some drinks on the weekends to Monkey’s Tail to chill or we either go to Galvestons sea walk. There’s such amazing places to have fun in the city.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
For sure, we want to thank our family who supports us. Our parents, siblings, uncles and tias , cousins and my abuelitos. Without there support this wouldn’t be possible. Also, big shout out to all our customers, especially the ones who come back every week from near and far to support us and buy their elotito, we keep growing and we thank y’all for the support , without y’all this wouldn’t be possible.
