We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Crosby and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sarah, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
I’ve always been a goal setter and a goal achiever. I make a goal and come hell or high water, I’m going reach that goal. It was easier as a kid. If I was going to finish a school project by a certain day, it would be done by that day. In college, I had my eyes set on competing and touring with the Ballroom Dance Team for my university. I worked and worked until I reached that goal.
During those years I was all work no play. I would sit at the kitchen table doing homework while my siblings swam outside. I practiced my dance routines until I was dreaming about them.
The burn out and stress in those situations was real.
As I got married and started a family, I realized that my family and I could not function on the all work no play mentality I was use to.
My kids have been a great reminder for me to enjoy the little things and enjoy life and not work right through it.
When incorporating this into Hair By Sarah Croz, it has been hard to not just go at full speed and say yes to all things all time. I’ve learned that when I take breaks in my work schedule my tank doesn’t run on empty and my creative juices flow easier and my job is more enjoyable. Not to mention, in my personal life my relationships are less strained and more nurtured and my health is better.
I’ve learned that balance is the key. I can set and reach goals like I’ve always done. But if I take the time to breathe a little and focus on the simple things and the life I’ve created for myself I’ll enjoy the process a lot more.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I specialize in lived in color. Lived in color is exactly that, color that looks more natural. My goal is to make women feel more beautiful and confident with easy to maintain hair that enhances their natural hair color. My guest experience is like none other. I make sure to make each and every guest feel special and my sole focus on the appointment. No other guests, no interruptions. I also add a few special spa like perks to the appointment so all my guests can leave feeling rejuvenated.
I am most proud of the business and brand I created. I love when new guests tell me they’ve heard about me over and over. Or when a clients is so happy with their results they cry. I just can’t believe I could have that much of an impact.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I tell everyone that they need to visit during rodeo season. All the Texas in one place. My kids love to participate in the Mutton Bustin and we love to watch! I’m a big fan of The Fish in Midtown. I love their sushi.
And Reaux Pour has the best fried oysters!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband for being my sounding board for all things, business, hair and social media
