We had the good fortune of connecting with Raddix (Josh Martin) and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Raddix, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started my music career as Raddix because I wanted to bring a new original sound to the world. Music has always been something I felt could be shared to bring people closer together, make someone feel better in their time of darkness or even help reflect on ones own personal life and circumstances.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
In 2012 I noticed a lack of representation of vocalists in the dance music industry. Vocalists and songwriters would be listed as a “feature” or a lot of the times not given credit on the song title at all. I wanted to help change this stigma that vocalists and songwriters were secondary or even forgotten about. It’s been difficult navigating through the music industry especially starting at such a young age. However, I’ve been lucky enough to have a great team, family and friends that’ve helped over the years.
I’ve learned it’s hard to trust everyone that offers a quick route to success or over night fame. It’s taken years of consistency and having a strong work ethic to accomplish this dream.
When I leave this world I want to leave behind all the special moments and memories that were made because of my music. So many hearts have been touched with many more to come. I want people to remember me for the music I made and all the love I was able to give out. Life’s too short, to not be rad.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love taking my friends shopping at the galleria. There’s tons of great food spots and stores for anything you might need to keep your wardrobe looking fresh! I also like stopping at Nara hookah lounge for a delicious chicken shawarma and hookah on a night out. Lastly, maybe stop by 9pm presents, formerly Ayva Center, for an edm concert.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to give a few shout outs to the ones in my team who have taken this dream to places we’d never thought it’d go.
First, Jay Longoria was the first person to make me write my first song and helped mentor me into the artist I became.
Secondly, John Stephenson, my manager has worked relentlessly over the years to ensure we get put into positions that really take our brand to the next level. Wether it’s booking shows, locking in contracts or making new connections he really does it all and keeps the Raddix brand as one of the most professional in the industry.
Third, Adrian Rich, my sound engineer, has been tirelessly working on creating the highly anticipated debut Raddix Album that is expected to release next year. He also creates a lot of the beats and sounds that are heard during live Raddix performances.
